CONYERS — The traditional Easter egg hunt will be up in the air next week when 30,000 candy-filled eggs will be dropped from a helicopter at the Georgia International Horse Park.

Oh, and 30,000 Easter eggs. The egg drop is being presented by Discover Point Church of Conyers. Lead Pastor Philip Lehman said the event is designed to give families a chance to come out and have a good time.
“This is not a brand new idea. Churches do this sort of thing all across America,” he said. “We wanted to see if we could kick it up a notch. It’s kind of like an Easter egg hunt on steroids.”
The egg drop will take place at the steeplechase field at the horse park, located across from Hawthorne Suites hotel on Centennial Olympic Parkway. The helicopter will actually make four egg drops because it can carry only 7,500 eggs at a time, Lehman said.
The field will also be divided in two — one field for toddlers through children 6 years old and a second field for children 7 years old and up.
Last year’s egg drop was a big success for the Conyers church that was established four years ago and is located at 1303 Parker Road.
Organizers have planned this year’s egg drop in conjunction with the Conyers Cherry Blossom Festival and have added sponsors 94.9 FM The Bull, Charter Communications and THP Graphics Group. SafeHouse Outreach of Atlanta, a ministry assisting the homeless, will provide a medical unit on site. Also, Medieval Times, the Middle Ages-themed restaurant will have a knight and horse from their jousting tournament show.
Among the prizes that will be drawn is a chance for someone to fly in the helicopter to actually drop the eggs during the event.
Lehman said organizers are expecting anywhere between 3,000 and 5,000 people for the egg drop and encouraged people to register at www.eggdropconyers.com. Updates are also available on Twitter, look for the handle “eggdropconyers,” and on Facebook.

We had a great time and hope Discover Point will put this on again next year. Seeing the helicopter drop the eggs was SO COOL!!! Thanks to this church for putting this on for free.
Very disappointing with the Easter Egg Drop. It was misleading to say the event was at 2pm when it actually didn't start until 4pm. For the amount of people that showed up it would have been nice if you had more activities for the children.
We took the kids and everyone had a nice time. Our son thought the helicopter was awesome! The food and drinks were a little too expensive. Thanks to all who were involved with planning and hosting this.
