Floyd George, age 79, died August 17, 2006. Mr. George had been a resident of Covington for 55 years. He was born in Fulton County, Georgia to the late Floyd and Julia Webb George. Mr. George was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Carroll King George. He is survived by daughter, Rhonda Barbaree of Covington; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Marshall Walters of Covington; sister, Annie Ruth Housworth of Lithonia; brother, Charles George of Lithonia; brother, Lamar George of Monroe; sister, Wynelle Norman of Monroe; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Janice and Marshall Caldwell; sister-in-law, Evylene Lester of Conyers; 3 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Mr. George was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Mr. George grew up farming and took pride in his own vegetable garden. He was employed by Western Union for 30 years. He served in the Army in the Pacific during WWII. Mr. George is a member of Zion Baptist Church where he taught preschoolers in Sunday School for many years with his daughters. He and his wife Carroll owned and operated Carroll's Carats Jewelry Store in Covington, GA for 10 years. Funeral Services will be held at Zion Baptist Church, Covington, Georgia, Saturday, August 19, 2006 at 11:00 am with Dr. R.T. Brantley, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family at Wheeler Funeral Home, Friday night from 6-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zion Baptist Church, 7037 Highway 212 North, Covington, Georgia 30016. Wheeler Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements. 770-786-7111.
