Emma Lee Daniel Ragsdale

This is a sad day for our family with the death of our beloved mother. Emma Lee Daniel Ragsdale, 98, died October 29, 2007, in her home at the Yellow Brick House in Lithonia. Mrs. Ragsdale was born December 14, 1908 in Lithonia, GA and was the daughter of Lottie Pearl Granade and Henry Homer Daniel. She graduated from Lithonia High School in 1925 and was graduate of Atlanta Normal Training School where she was elected May Queen in 1927. After graduation she taught 3rd grade in Avondale and Lithonia. She was married August 18, 1934 to Robert Inman Ragsdale, who until his death in 1961 was a prominent attorney in Decatur. Mrs. Ragsdale's life revolved around her family, church, school and community. She attended Rock Chapel United Methodist for many years where she was active as a pianist and Sunday School teacher. She was a life long member of the First Baptist Church of Lithonia and a member of the Fidelas Sunday School Class. She held various offices in the PTA at Rock Chapel Elementary and Lithonia High School. In recent years she was an active member in the Lithonia AARP, Young at Heart and Share-N-Care. In 1966 at the age of 58 she received a Certificate from DeKalb Technical School as a Medical Office Assistant. Mrs. Ragsdale worked for several years at Robert's Clinic in Atlanta and with Doctors Hunt and Foster in Lithonia. She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, B. Candler Daniel and H. Harold Daniel and her husband. She is survived by her four children and spouses, Katherine and Frank Chandley of Statham, Dan and Gayle Ragsdale of Oxford, Robert and Karen Ragsdale of Dunwoody and Marilee and Jim McNeely of Cumming; eight grandchildren and spouses, David and Lynn Chandley of Lilburn, Frank Ragsdale of Conyers, Elizabeth Cantrell of Covington, Charlotte and Charlie English of Bogart, Karen and Keith Chastonay of Auburn, AL, Trey and Erin Ragsdale of Sandy Springs, Jeff and Jan Lauren McNeely of Charleston, SC, and Ky and Russell Dalba of Sandy Springs. Also ten great-grandchildren, cousins and several nieces and nephews. Alzheimer's Disease robbed our Mother of her memory and the ability to cook our favorite foods and her homemade biscuits, but she still had her sweet smile and never lost the ability to say "thank you" and pay compliments to others. The family wishes to express its gratitude to Dawn Stewart Massey and her exceptional staff of loving care givers at the Yellow Brick House in Lithonia. A funeral service will be held 11 o'clock Friday, November 2 at the First Baptist Church of Lithonia, 6616 Hillandale Drive, with Dr. Jim Martin officiating. Burial will be at the Rock Chapel Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the grandsons David Chandley, Frank Ragsdale, Trey Ragsdale, Jeff McNeely, two nephews Bob Ragsdale of Virginia Beach, VA and Bill Ragsdale of Winston-Salem, NC, and two friends Frank Cameron of Lithonia and Gene Ginn of St. Simons Island.
