Melissa G. Chaffin of Covington, died September 23, 2008, at the age of 89. Mrs. Chaffin was a member of Zion Baptist Church. She was a loving and Christian mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mrs. Chaffin was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Edward Chaffin, and her parents, James and Carrie Morgan Greene. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Tommy Maddox of Oxford; Carol Elaine and Ferrell Thompson of Phil Campbell, AL; grandchildren, Todd Maddox of Cumming, Michael Newell of Haleyville, AL, Melissa Newell of Tuscaloosa, AL; great-grandchildren, Claire Newell, Mary Caroline Newell, Haleyville, AL; sisters, Emily Deriso of Columbus, Evelyn Smith of Rockport, TX; brother, Travis Greene of Texas. Funeral Services for Mrs. Chaffin will be held Friday, September 26, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Rd., with Rev. Jim Sparacino officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Family will receive friends at the funeral home, Thursday, September 25, from 4:00-8:00 PM.
