CONYERS -- Local emergency management officials are asking residents to stay mindful of weather conditions today as forecasters predict severe thunderstorms, hail and possibly tornadoes.
A weather system that caused significant hail and tornado activity in east Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana was expected to move east through Alabama today and Georgia later today.
Rockdale County Sheriff's Office Lt. Myra Pearrell said the county Emergency Management office would be monitoring conditions through the weekend and encouraged residents to be prepared if weather condition change suddenly.
"I cannot emphasize enough the importance to monitor all sources of information whether it's television, the radio or the Internet, people to be aware of the coming severe weather in order to take the proper action, if needed," Pearrell said.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm system is expected to move into north Georgia by this afternoon and produce large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes.
The storms are expected to move into the Carolinas by Sunday evening, according to the NWS bulletin posted on www.weather.gov.
