WELLS: Celebrate Jesus' birthday by keeping Him first today

Happy birthday, Jesus.

Today is Jesus' birthday and I hope He was the first thing on your mind this morning when you woke up.

Sure it is hard not to be excited about opening presents and the activities the day will bring. But if it wasn't for His birth, we would have no reason to celebrate Dec. 25.

It is because of His birth that we as Christians have purpose, peace and passion in life. It is because of His birth that we have the freedom to share what we know about Him with those who do not know of His great goodness.

It is hard for some to understand how a baby born in a stable, wrapped in swaddling clothes and placed in a manager can grow up to be a king, or should I say The King.

But that is how God would have it.

God knew that we as humans would need details about Jesus' birth, His life here on earth, His torturous death and His coming again for our feeble minds to grasp hold of the good tidings of comfort and joy Jesus' birth brings to our lives.

God knew that His son would need to be the joy to the crazy world. He knew that it would require a beautiful and holy night for us to see a glimpse of God's great love for all of His kids.

God knew there was a great need to go and shout it on the mountain tops so people would know that Jesus Christ was born.

I bet Jesus was a beautiful baby. I bet His sweet little face just glowed with an angelic heavenly light. I bet He had a million dollar smile, I just bet.

Mary, Jesus' mother, did know that she would give birth to the Savior. What joy that would be knowing your child would save this world from its sinful self. You know she gazed at Him with such a proud feeling.

I know I would be proud if I would have been Mary. And I am proud to celebrate this season, because I know the true reason for this wonderful time of year.

Be proud of that sweet baby that was born just so you would have eternal life with Him in heaven one day. Be proud that He loved you enough to live and die the way He did.

Show Him your love for Him by keeping Him first as you celebrate today with your loved ones.

Please don't forget to pray and love on those around you that might be lonely or hurting right now, because that is exactly what sweet little baby Jesus would do.

Merry Christmas from the Wells family to your family.
