Rockdale Poll - 10/30/10

"On Tuesday evening, Oct. 19, at about 8 a helicopter with spotlights flew back and forth over our neighborhood which is south of Interstate 20. We looked in both morning papers following this incident and have seen nothing. Sure would like to know what was going on."

"Based on the Channel 23 pet adoption ads, this county's Animal Control never, ever has cats available for adoption. Only dogs. Isn't that kind of odd?"

----

"Help! Nonpartisan election For Rockdale County Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor (vote for three). There is no information either on the 'position' or the three candidates. I've looked at League of Women voters, AJC voter guide, Secretary of State, elections list of qualified candidates, have resorted to Google, Ask, MSN, Yippy and Yahoo search engines. Still no information related to this ballot item. Please, I need to vote by Tuesday can you provide any information?"

Editors' note: Georgia Soil and Water Conservaction District supervisors serve as unpaid state officials who represent their counties in support of soil and water conservation activities. "I advise all people to go to 'Circus in the Now' Web site and click on their streaming videos in the archive section. The video is called 'A Real Message to Real People.' If this isn't a circus I don't know what is. This man basically twists all the scriptures to justify his sexual orientation. There are several gay speakers giving entirely too much information about their sexual excursions. His wife is even in the video using profanity. What type of church has this become? A circus in the now! I pray for all who decide to stay in this ministry."

"I have been reading the comments about school lunch and thought I'd comment. My child is not a picky eater and I have never had problems with my child eating school lunch, but since attending Edwards Middle School my child has constantly complained about the food such as burned chicken, hard rolls, and cold food etc. ... I told my child to quit complaining! Several weeks my child has come home extremely hungry and sometimes sick from not eating lunch. I thought this was strange since my child eats almost anything! I thought my child was just being dramatic until I read several comments in the Citizen about how horrible the food is at several of the schools. Now, I'm worried. I think I may go eat lunch with my child so that I can see exactly what is being served and how. Maybe this explains some behavior problems in classrooms these days. I don't know who we should complain to, but parents need to get active! I know I will. And by the way, since I pay for school lunch, I expect it to be healthy and fresh ... At least the teachers are eating well."

----

"Did anyone see the Church in the Now video? They mentioned inclusion doctrine ... look out folks! These people have an agenda. This church is not going to be the same. They are now turning into a ministry geared toward homosexuals."

----

"People need to stop talking about Pastor Swilley. He has done a lot for this community. His sexual orientation is no one's business! As long as he delivers the anointed word I am happy. Judge not or be judged."

----

"Garvin Haynes is an insult to our community. He is now on a mission to get African Americans appointed to office so he won't be taken off of all of the boards he currently serves on. Wake up, Rockdale!"

----

"Dear politicians, getting my vote is very simple. Let me keep more of the money I earn. Here is my promise to you. I will never vote for you unless you are committed to letting me keep my money. Cut taxes and cut your spending. If you can't, someone will come along that can."

----

"Please do not complain about Rockdale Animal Control. You need to go to Newton's animal control. It is crazy. It's like stepping back in time 50 years. In a bad way."

----

"It seems like the pastors that are flashy and focus on material wealth are the ones who end up in trouble. Pastors, please stay humble. Live simple lives and minister to your congregation like Jesus did. Focus on the spiritual needs of the community. God wants to heal their hurts. Jesus would probably not have driven a fancy car. Wealth is not eternal and it shifts the focus to self. Which usually ends bad."

----

"To the person who suggested we vote all new people into office, or at least choose the youngest, what are you thinking? That is a completely ignorant stance. There are lot's of elected officials that need to be replaced, but there are some who have done an excellent job. And I would take a candidate with proven business, life and political experience over someone with none of that ... any day! Maybe you need to have less of a knee-jerk reaction and educate yourself on the candidates instead."

----

"I am a concerned parent writing about my daughter's school. I have never been to a public school where the elementary students were talked to by their teachers the way they are at C.J. Hicks Elementary School. I walked through the hallway and heard nothing positive spoken to the students. (but yelling, walk close to the wall, fill in the gap, hips and lips) How are we suppose to encourage our children to have good self-esteem and treat others with care, when the teachers don't treat the students in this manner. Even though the school might be new and big, the staff isn't much to write home about. I am seriously considering home-schooling my daughter."

----

"Thanks Rockdale County for putting the reflectors on Hurst Road, but could you have just put one reflector in between the lines of the double yellow line instead of one on either side of the lines? The road is so narrow that you have to drive on the reflectors and you go thumpity thump, thumpity thump for the whole 3 miles!"

----

"To the person somehow convinced that a chiropractor is an actual doctor (not)... A veterinarian is a doctor with eight to 10 years or more education.. A medical doctor.. How could you possibly equate a chiro 'bone cracker' to a veterinarian? Face it. Chiropractors are not doctors."

----

"To a comment in the 10/21 poll: how does your being Hispanic have anything to do with C.J. Hicks becoming a charter school? I'm so sick of people screaming about their rights being violated over the most minor things. Grow up."

----

"To Oz Nesbitt: why are you even on the board anyway? I just read about you siding with Oden to table the issue of the change in the chief of staff's duties. Why? What made you change your mind between last week and this week? Please do us all a favor and do not run for the board again. We need people on who think for the constituents and the county's future, not sycophants who kowtow to their political party leaders and to whomever chairs the board."

----

"I really thought Oz had begun to get a backbone and stand up to Oden, but after the last commissioner's meeting of Oct. 26 regarding the vote on the chief of staff, Oz has once again proven he is just a yes man. I don't know if our little county can stand two more years of these men. Those of you who voted for them for the sake of change sure got your change at the expense of all the taxpayers of Rockdale County."

----

"It is time for a new nonbiased news source in Rockdale County. The Rockdale Citizen has not been willing to publish views of fundamental Christians because of the fear that those views will be hurtful to some. Yes, it is true that the Bible is offensive to many. But let me assure you that the Bible is a measuring rod by which all Christians must measure themselves by. Regardless of your views of Scripture it is the standard that all will be measured by. With the recent events at a local church where the leader announced to his followers that he is a homosexual, the Citizen has been very cautions to only publish comments that are not including scriptures from the Bible. It is a sad day in this county. Withholding the truth only harms those it is intended to protect."

"While picking someone up at the 911 center on Farmer Road last week I smelled a really terrible odor. I mean it was really bad, all you wanted to do was get away from it. After talking with several 911 Center employees I learned that this odor is present quite often. It seems that the dead animals that are picked up ... are dumped off a hill behind the 911 center and left there to rot. This odor is also sucked into the AC system so they also get it pretty bad inside the center as well. This has been going on for some time now. I can't believe this is being allowed to happen, the dumping of animal bodies in a populated area. This is very unhealthy for everyone in the area, and is just simply a stupid idea. Isn't there anyone with an ounce of sense that can look into this?"

----

"I cannot wait until 2012 when Oden gets voted out and Pridgeon has to find ... another job."
