CONYERS -- Approximately 5,000 gallons of untreated wastewater spilled into a tributary to McClane Creek near Willow Court Tuesday, according to Rockdale Water Resources.
The spill occurred after a tree fell and broke an 8-inch pipe that was suspended over the creek, according to Terrell Gibbs, deputy director of operations and engineering for Rockdale Water Resources.
The spill was reported by a citizen at about 11 a.m. Tuesday. It took maintenance workers about four hours to repair the broken pipe.
Gibbs said suspended pipes that span creeks are typically supported by piers that aren't very high, generally 2 to 6 feet above the water.
Willow Court is located in the Willow Creek subdivision in south Rockdale County.
