Conyers Police seek Atlanta man in shooting

CONYERS -- The Conyers Police Department is looking for an Atlanta man wanted in connection with a Thanksgiving Day shooting.

Lt. Jackie Dunn said an arrest warrant has been issued for Marcus Mandela Campbell, 19, charging him with aggravated assault in connection with the shooting. Other charges are pending, Dunn added.

Police were called to the entrance to Meadows Crossing apartments on Irwin Bridge Road at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday where a 21-year-old Conyers man had been shot in his car. Dunn said several 911 calls from residents were made immediately after the shooting, with one coming from the victim himself.

"He advised that he had been shot," Dunn said. "Officers arrived on the scene and he had multiple gunshot wounds, including a shot to the face. He was responsive, was able to talk to (the officers), and give them information."

Dunn said officers learned that a male juvenile had been in the car with the victim at the time of the shooting, but he fled prior to officers' arrival.

Dunn said the victim and his passenger met up with the suspect, who drove up in a car. The suspect then got in the back seat of the victim's car.

"At some point he pulled a gun and told them he was robbing them and to empty their pockets, and for whatever reason, started shooting," Dunn said.

The suspect reportedly fled in a dark-colored, four-door passenger vehicle. A lookout issued for Campbell describes him as "armed and extremely dangerous." Campbell is described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 130 pounds, with multiple tattoos on his forearms, hands and knuckles. The victim and suspect apparently knew each other, but the juvenile passenger did not know the suspect, Dunn said.

A handgun was found at the scene, but Dunn said it had not been determined if it was the gun used in the shooting.

The victim was Lifeflighted to an Atlanta area hospital where he underwent surgery. He was listed in stable condition on Friday.

Why were they meeting? Why did the unnamed juvenile run away before cops got there? What was the Juvenile carrying with him when he ran away? What was the motive behind the shooting? Was this just some freinds meeting up in a church parking lot and one of them decided to start shooting? I wish this news paper would ask the police these questions. If the cops do not know the answers to these questions, I would like to know about it.

This story sound like b.s. just being honest. Look at whats written, for "whatever" reason he started shooting, so we are supposed to beleive this kid got into a vehicle n which he was outnumbered and attempted to rob them than said you know what why take the money its early in the morning how bout i just shoot at them and leave their wallet. Than you guys say armed and extreemly dangerous well, if you found a handgun how is he armed? Was that his gun the police found or does it belong to someone else where is the report on the prints found on the gun who do they belong too. Im not justifying this tragedy just simply stating that you guys should seriously investigate a crime before writing about it.

Yes, even without seeing the dreadlocked mug shot, I can tell that Marc has a lot "qoin for himself." Just the description alone - "multiple tattoos on his forearms, hands and knuckles" - is enough to let me know that this young man is headed for a promising career, perhaps with a Fortune 500 company or maybe as an airline pilot or pastor or cardiac surgeon. Clearly, he has dedicated himself to acquiring an education, getting training, and bettering his community. I don't know how anyone could think this man is mixed up in any kind of crime or nefarious activities; apparently, the paper has acquired a Facebook photo that has been doctored to look like a mug shot in order to make us think he has an arrest record. It's all a set up designed to tear down one of the bright lights of the Atlanta community. Fie, I say.
