Pets available for adoption this week in Newton, Rockdale counties

This young man took to the highway and lost his way home. He's been named Benny, just because and weighs between 30 and 35 pounds. A Beagle-mix, he's already been neutered and is ready for his forever home which he hopes will have a fenced-in back yard to help him to remember not to follow things like rabbits and squirrels. He's up-to-date on his shots. He can be rescued and adopted at Rockdale County Animal Care and Control Shelter at 1506 Rockbridge Road in Conyers. At the Rockdale shelter adoption fees for dogs are $30 and $20 for cats. Spaying or neutering is required for adoption. This fluffy guy, obviously a Pomeranian, was found wandering the streets alone. He only weighs 6 pounds, so it must have looked like a big, scary world out there. He has a bad right eye, but he manages just fine. He's an adult, probably over 5 years old, but he's got a lot of spark left in him, which is why he's been dubbed Sparky. He'd like a soft lap to sit on and a lot of love. He can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514.
