Rockdale grad Farmer, Tech fall to Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Buck Farmer ran into some tough luck Friday in Winston Salem.

The Georgia Tech right-hander struck out eight and scattered eight hits against host Wake Forest, but four unearned runs in the sixth inning doomed the former Rockdale hurler in a 4-2 loss in ACC play.

Farmer struck out Carlos Lopez to start the sixth, but the ball got past Tech catcher Connor Lynch and Lopez reached on a passed ball. Though Farmer got strike outs on the next two hitters, the Demon Deacons picked up three consecutive hits, and after a Tech throwing error, four runs had crossed the plate. That was all the hosts would need.

Farmer fell to 5-3 on the season, though his ERA improved to 3.33 in nine starts. In his last three starts, the junior has allowed one earned run in 23 innings pitched (0.39 ERA).

Heritage baseball wins fourth consecutive game

MOUNT AIRY -- The Heritage baseball team stayed hot Friday, winning its fourth consecutive game 6-3 over Habersham Central on Friday.

Adam Howard pitched 6 innings, allowing just two earned runs, while Matt Reeves (two-run single) and Jordan Martin (RBI-single) paced the offense.

The Patriots, who next play a home-and-home with rival Salem, moved to 13-7 and 8-3 in Region 8-AAAA.
