CONYERS -- The Salem High School Jazz band will perform at 7 p.m. today in the Salem High School theater.
The concert will include the Memorial Middle School Jazz band directed by Gerald Dailey and the Salem Jazz band directed by Ben Tingle with guest tenor saxophonist Kenyon Carter.
Carter, jazz saxophonist and international recording artist, expresses his creative and soulful style through a beautiful and sultry sound. Although unique and entirely unmistakable, he has been compared to contemporary smooth jazz favorites like Boney James, Dave Koz, Kirk Whalum and Gerald Albright.
"It is a great opportunity to educate our students and the community on the history and importance of jazz music, which is an American art form that much of today's popular music originated from," Tingle said.
The concert is free.
