This little guy might resemble a skunk, but he's sweet as sweet can be. Believed to have some Scottish ancestry, he's only 1 year old and weighs just 15 pounds. He's named Harry for the moment, but a new family can name him anything they want. He's a charming young fellow and will make a great pet. He can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal.

This young lady is smiling for the camera and hopes she'll charm someone into taking her home. A Doxie-mix, Mazzy weighs approximately 20 pounds and was picked up as a stray. Folks at the shelter have discovered she likes to "talk and sing," so expect interaction with this sweet little girl. Believed to be about 2 to 3 years old, she would make an excellent family pet. She can be rescued and adopted at Rockdale County Animal Care and Control Shelter at 1506 Rockbridge Road in Conyers. At the Rockdale shelter adoption fees for dogs are $30 and $20 for cats. Spaying or neutering is required for adoption. The shelter is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-278-8403.
