Rockdale Citizen Poll - 2-12-12

"Unlike the commenter in the previous poll, I'm all for the eradication of pit bulls. They're too dangerous, and they have outlasted their original purposes for warfare, baiting and fighting. Time to spay/neuter the remaining population and forbid further breeding."

"Could the Citizen please do a follow-up story on the shooting of the Fred's manager. I don't mean info that we know. I would like to know if they ever found the robber and what is being done about it. Also, the reason they couldn't find him. Please push the police hard on these robbery and assault cases. The citizens hate to see criminals get away with their crimes. We hate it."

"On Friday, Feb 3. at 3:30 there was a cyclist driving down Milstead Avenue. A lady in a white car was confused on what the "sharrows" that are painted on the road mean. The whole event was captured on video and is available to view here: http://youtu.be/lWjqSIRmUAk I was shocked at the road rage that the driver ... expressed. I happen to be that cyclist, and would ask all motorists to please treat bicycles as you would any other vehicle on the road. The law states that motorists must pass a cyclist at a safe distance (defined as 3 feet) as you would any other vehicle. Lady, certainly you were not attempting to kill me, you probably just thought that you would teach me a lesson. I would encourage you to google HB 101, the 3-feet law that came into effect last year. To the person towards the end of the video ... same to you. Please share the road."

"When I think of the American subcultures that are liberal and vote Democrat, the following come to mind: drug dealers, welfare recipients, people who think chickens and cows are human, criminals and lawyers that make millions to get them out of jail, educators and social workers with no ability to identify root causes of social problems, illegal immigrants, parents that are afraid to correct their kids, living-wage proponents, out of touch Ivory tower types, and death row inmates. Take a poll of all those people and they will mostly fall in line with the liberal agenda. Notice I didn't mention Abe Lincoln and MLK Jr. They both had brains and were Republicans."

"Democrats have been running our inner-cities for the past 30 to 40 years, and blacks are still complaining about the same problems. More than $7 trillion have been spent on poverty programs since Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty with little, if any, impact on poverty. Diabolically, every election cycle, Democrats blame Republicans for the deplorable conditions in the inner-cities, then incite blacks to cast a protest vote against Republicans. Is Detroit better off now than it was in the '60s? How about Baltimore, New Orleans, or Lithonia?"

"Today, Democrats, in pursuit of their socialist agenda, are fighting to keep blacks poor, angry and voting for Democrats. Examples of how Democrats act to keep blacks in poverty are numerous. Check out the numerous websites of organizations for black Republicans including National Black Republican Association (NBRA). We have to leave the plantation y'all. Democrats want to keep us down and on the free gravy train because they think we are all sorry and lazy and will never improve. They throw us scraps then try to convince us they are the ones helping us when our kids keep growing up poor because we aren't teaching them to be successful through hard work and honest living."

"Has anyone heard anymore about the Daquavious Mapp case? Did they ever find the killer? Doesn't anyone want that case solved?"

"I don't like Romney much but he is better than 'Owe-Bama.' The current administration wants all of our money."

"I concur with an earlier poster who asked the Citizen Editors to consider adding a black conservative to the opinions. Here are a couple more choices. Loyd Marcus http://www.americanthinker.com/lloyd_marcus/ and Star Parker http://townhall.com/columnists/starparker."

"While New York City is working on a parade for their football team, why don't Conyers, Covington, Rockdale and Newton devise a combined area plan to honor our Iraq vets? Let's parade from east to west with the final stop in Olde Town or at the horse park?"

"I am a teacher in the school system here and I consider it a calling on my life. I am thankful that I can try to help these students grow up and be successful. But, If the Lord ever blesses me with a child, I cannot imagine putting that precious child in this system where they do not attempt to remove bad influences. This system allows terrible things to go on in our schools without much punishment and no real correction. I have first-hand knowledge and just couldn't do it."

"I just realize my stormwater utility bill was due Sunday and now I have a late fee of 91 cents. I do not understand the bill anyway when we and many others pay our water bill and taxes and on time, I will add. Some one needs to shed some light on these charges and about the people living in this county that do not pay. Are these fees forgiven and passed on to the ones paying? I will pay our bill, but I'm not very happy about this."

"I was watching the local news last week and was quite taken aback concerning a report concerning food stamp debit cards being used in liquor stores and strip joints in Georgia! Millions and millions of tax dollars thrown away! Come on, people ... are there not any checks and balances as to where these cards can be used! I have a medical debit card; if I try to buy something that is not authorized, the sale is rejected. As long as recipients can get away with abuse, it will not stop. Does our state government not have a fraud department that is competent enough to stop this? I hear stories almost every day concerning families receiving assistance that are employed and making decent money. Is a phone call all a person needs to do to receive benefits? Married or not, working or not, a houseful of illegitimate children should not justify long term/ life-long benefits. I'm sick of it. If the state personnel would get up off their butts and visit some of these households after benefits are granted, they may be shocked as to what they find. New cars, new electronics, every person in the family with a cell phone, able-bodied people not working, not to mention all the new clothes and manicures/pedicures. I say enough!"

"Does anyone remember when then-Sen. Barack Obama said, 'The fact that we're here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure ... I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America's debt limit'...?"

"Nesbitt always seems to have excuses for every 'error.' There was the Frigidaire 'error,' the domestic violence 'error' ... no need to go into all the other 'errors' but this campaign 'error' takes the cake. Do we really need that kind of 'error' to be re-elected?"

To the cyclist driving down Milstead Avenue, thank you for the video and a new perspective of what it is to be a cyclist in Conyers. As a motorcyclist myself, I see a lot of foolish behavior in my travels. It’s the reason I put a camera on my motorcycle. Have you shared your video with Conyers Police? There are some pretty clear shots of tag numbers on your video.

Ditto to AJK....I'm sorry that folks have not quite caught on to the sharrows that are on the pavement. I was not sure of the meaning nor did I realize the widened shoulder was NOT the tire path for bikes. Thank you for the bike-cam (much too cool!) and the portrait of the reality of bikes v vehicles on Milstead. For all the bikes that come into Conyers/Rockdale in big groups to the guys and gals out solo...I've never had a cycle that never gave up the right of way when the conditions allowed and never, ever had one that risked life and limb by being obnoxious about his/her rights of the road. Good for you. I hope the Citizen will do something along the lines of publishing the laws for the paths, sharrows and shoulders.

Regarding the sharrows markings. I saw that the other day and not sure what it meant, i did see the bike image. I saw the right lane marked also and figured that was a bike lane. Now I better understand the full meaning of this due to the poll. Common sense would tell you that if you look there is some method to it. People that cant comprehend need to stay at home.

I agree with the conclusion in the video posted by the bicyclist. I have no clue why the "sharrows" are painted in the road. Are they just reminders? Arent we supposed to treat bikes like cars anyway. I am pretty sure that is what it said on the drivers liscense test I took. Those drivers were too aggressive especially the SUV turning at Eastview. I do not understand those arrows at all. A bike trail would be much better. I usually ride my bike on the sidewalk anyway but Im not a serious cyclist.

To the cyclist that made the video, you are a very brave person. I don’t know if I would ever ride that route just because of how those people drove. The police need to look at the video and ticket those people. Could Rockdale Citizen do an article about the lanes and the proper distance to pass a cyclist?

At a cost of nearly $40,000, I hope they wear better than the lane markings that need refreshed on many of our roads. Markings or not, I would fear for my life to ride on most of our roads. It seems to me the only really safe riding is on a road that has REAL bike lanes and the money could be put to better use providing those.

I think that sounds about right. Most dope-heads and criminals That I have met are pretty liberal. Their lawyers are always liberal too come to think of it.
