FORT BENNING, Ga. (AP) -- Officials say construction to repair three military buildings damaged by a tornado should be completed by April 15, one year after the storm struck at Fort Benning.
The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports that work crews are repairing Building 5124 and Building 2122, both barracks. Elsie Jackson, a public affairs spokeswoman, says repairs are also being made at the Warrior Training Center, which sustained minor damage.
Officials said the repairs are expected to cost $2.9 million.
When the tornado touched down on April 16, 2011, Building 5124 took the brunt of it. Wind damaged the roof, ripped away siding and left metal studs exposing insulation on the building.
