Undercover buys lead to drug arrest

CONYERS -- Surveillance and undercover drug buys by the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office Narcotics and Vice Unit led to the arrest of a Conyers man Tuesday.

The RCSO received multiple complaints about possible drug activity at a house at 1118 McCords Corner, which prompted the Narcotics and Vice Unit to launch an investigation. According to the Sheriff's Office, the unit obtained a search warrant following the most recent undercover buy and searched the house Tuesday morning. The unit was assisted by the RCSO SWAT team due to previous encounters with the suspect. A handgun, marijuana, and powder cocaine were found in the house during the search.

Arrested during the search was Nana Owusu Asamoah, 31, of the McCords Corner address. He is charged with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana less than 1 ounce, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. According to RCSO Lt. Michael Camp, the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.

Asamoah is being held in the Rockdale County Jail without bond.

Nice work to all the deputies involved and the citizens who continued to call in complaints. This is what we have to do to keep these low-lifes out of our town. I would also ask this newspaper to report back on this case when he is tried so we can see the performance of the DA and Judges. Thank you
