Courtney Dillard
CONYERS -- Former candidate for Rockdale County Board of Commissioners Courtney Dillard announced he was forming an exploratory committee for a possible run at Congressman Hank Johnson's seat in the upcoming primary election.
Dillard announced his plans last week, saying he has formed an exploratory committee "to introduce the compelling and charismatic Dillard to voters in the Fourth Congressional District that includes Rockdale, DeKalb and Gwinnett counties." The statement continues with Dillard planning to travel the district to "properly diagnose solutions, communicate important goals, and inform the people how and why they can get involved in this historic process."
Dillard, a Democrat, garnered 47 percent of the county-wide vote in 2010 when he lost to incumbent Republican County Commissioner JaNice Van Ness. Dillard said in the statement he will make a final decision on running for the congressional seat after his tour of the district is completed, though he did not give a time frame. The candidate qualification period for this year's elections is May 23-25.
Johnson, D-Decatur, is in his third term in Congress since defeating incumbent Rep. Cynthia McKinney in 2006. He ran in 2010 without opposition in the Democratic primary and soundly defeated the Republican and Libertarian candidates in the General Election.

Wasn't there an incident involving striking or grabbing a child in his past as well as an infidelity? Character is a very important aspect in a politician's life and I don't see a great one in Mr. Dillard.

At this point, I hope he wins. Face it, there's no way this district is going to have a clear-thinking, rational representative voted in (and certainly not a Republican!), because the 'diversity' in this district prefers to be catered to by race-baiting, self-serving, do-nothings. Hank has gotten boring since his handlers reigned him in; and after reading his extensive rap sheet/record of 'achievements,' can you imagine the trouble Dillard could get into in DC? The potential headlines alone should be worth the cost of a wasted vote.
