East metro residents got a preview of the Fourth of July on Sunday with a grand fireworks display as seen here on the Covington Square, but there are still plenty of activities available today. The city of Oxford and the Oxford Lions Club will host the annual parade with line-up beginning at 9 a.m. on Haygood Avenue. The parade will kick off at 10 a.m., led by Grand Marshals/Citizens of the Year Hoyt and Latrelle Oliver. Social Circle will host a car show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., followed by a parade at 5:30, a gospel concert at 6:30 and fireworks at dark. The city of Porterdale's festivities begin at 3 p.m. with live music and a parade down Main Street at 4 p.m. Cage wrestling will be held at 7 p.m. and fireworks will start at dark. The Community Band, directed by T.K. Adams, will perform a free patriotic concert from 5-6 p.m. on the Square in Covington. - Staff photo by Sue Ann Kuhn-Smith
