CONYERS -- The second suspect in two June armed robberies is in custody at the Rockdale County Jail.
Conyers Police Department Lt. Jackie Dunn said Derek Quantrell Cummings, 19, 1133 Railroad St., Conyers, turned himself in to police Monday afternoon. He was accompanied by his attorney.
Cummings is charged in connection with the CPD investigation of an armed robbery at the Subway restaurant on Sigman Road on June 8. In addition, he faces a second armed robbery charge by the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office in connection with a June 11 incident at Elliott's Grocery at the corner of Sigman and Rockbridge Roads.
Cummings and his alleged accomplice in the Subway robbery, Antwain Boglin, 20, of 1159 Millcrest Walk, were arrested on unrelated drug charges on June 9. According to Dunn, on the evening following the Friday night Subway robbery, Boglin and Cummings were sitting on Cummings' front porch on Railroad Street smoking marijuana.
Dunn said a CPD officer was getting gas at the city gas pumps on Railroad Street, smelled the odor of burning marijuana, and began looking for the source.
Cummings and Boglin were arrested on a marijuana charge and taken to the Rockdale County Jail. Cummings was able to bond out before authorities connected him to the Subway robbery and had been on the lam until he turned himself in Monday.
A third suspect may also have been involved in the Subway robbery, according to Dunn.
Cummings and another man are also suspected in the June 11 Elliott's Grocery robbery. According to RCSO Investigator Michael Camp, a warrant has been issued for the second suspect in that incident, but the Sheriff's Office has not released his name.
Dunn said the city's investigation into the Subway robbery is ongoing and gun charges may be filed against Cummings.

Remember those 'a mind is a terrible thing to waste' commercials? What happened with that? Apparently, the message didn't get across.

But...a mind permanently polluted with drugs, alcohol, and hate should be tossed out.

Ban them from the county. Armed Robbery! They pointed a bun at sandwich makers and threatened to kill them if they didnt give them money. Let's please not get de-sensitized to how bad this is for our wives and kids who shop in this town. They should not be allowed in our town anymore. They have lost priveledges. If we were to ban these type of criminals, people would quite doing it.

You don't ban them you send them to prison. What good does it do to say "Go to Henry County & stay there. We don't want you anymore"?

I meant gun not bun. And yes Wayne. I think they should go to prison too. But after the overcrowded prison decides to let them out after 10 years, they should be banned for life from this county. A lot of thugs act like prison or jail is no big deal. Banishment would add more of a deterring factor.

you can be banned from the county when convicted of drug charges so why not. A guy in the area I live in was convicted of drug charges and after prison time he is not allowed in Rockdale -- his dad and brothers all live here and the only way he can see them is if they come to see him -- he is a very lonely fellow and from what I hear from his dad he is now drug free and plans to stay that way.I think he may be able to come back in a few years

And who is stationed at the county line to check papers? You & I may stay out if ordered, but a thug is going to go where he wants & do what he wants. Just keep catching them & sending them away. That is the best banishment.

It works like a suspended liscense. No one is at the house of people with suspended liscenses either. But if you get pulled over and they run a check. If you are not supposed to be in that county, 1 year of jail and parol violation.

This is a sad day. I taught Derek his senior year at RCHS, and he was one of my best students in a class of kids who were struggling math students. It was a "real life math" class and we talked a lot about real life topics. The hardest day was the Monday after one of the other students in the class was shot that weekend (Dequavious Mapp). I think Derek took it the worst of everyone. We talked a lot that day, and Derek suggested to keep Dequavious' seat empty. I would have really hoped that would have kept Derek on the straight and narrow. He even stopped by my classroom one of the last days of school last month to just say hello. I hadn't seen him in a year.
Again, this is a sad day for him and me. As a teacher, you hope that your students learn not just the academics, but how to make it in life the right way. Apparently he didn't listen as much as I thought he did.

hmmm real life math? If my gun holds 6 bullets and I shoot one at the Subway clerk, how many more robberies can I commit before reloading?
