CONYERS -- A woman wound up in the Rockdale Medical emergency room Saturday night after she was attacked by pit bulldog.
The victim, a 22-year-old woman, told the Conyers Police Department she was walking west on Green Street at about 9 p.m. when she saw a man approaching walking a pit bulldog. Although the dog, described as black with white fur on the chest, was on a leash, the victim said the man was having a hard time controlling it.
As the man and dog approached, the victim said the dog lunged at her and bit her on the right arm. The victim told police that she "became very afraid at the amount of blood flowing from her arm and the pressure with which it was escaping," according to the report. The victim said the dog's handler asked if she was OK, but she didn't have time to talk. She said she rushed home so she could get to the emergency room.
The officer who responded to the emergency room said the victim had a bite wound that appeared to be 1 inch long and 1 inch deep.
The victim was unable to identify the dog's handler other than he was a black male walking east on Green Street toward the Shell station at the corner of West Avenue.

Pit bull owners should be required to take out $100,000 liability insurance policies to own one. Seems its not a matter of "if" a pit bull will attack an innocent bystander or child, but "when". People who can't control their pit bulls should think about trading them in for a chihuahua. We read everyday about police killing dogs that threaten them...meanwhile, ordinary citizens just have to stand there and becom "Alpo". This guy, and his vicious dog, should be hunted down to insure the animal is licensed, current on its inoculations, and doesn't have rabies. The owner should be fined, arrested, or sued, and the dog should be put down like any wild animal that attacks a human.

Get ready, Elmo: you're about to be jumped on by the pro-pit crowd. They're going to tell you it's not the animal, it's the way it's treated. They're going to tell you nuture outweighs nature (tell that to anyone who's ever been attacked by a 'domesticated' wild animal). They're going to tell you that pit bulls and related breeds are sweet and loving, and that they trust them around their children. They're going to tell you that chihuahuas are more aggressive and dangerous. They're going to completely ignore 20-year studies that have shown the incidence of injury and death by pit and Rottweiller breeds far exceeds that of any other breed, and they will continue to do so every time an incident involving a pit or Rott is involved.

@ heresyafacts -- wow you right since smaller dog don't do as much dammage they aren't reported as often and pits are somewhere around 5th on the danger list and your bathtub or car or loved one are more apt to kill you than a dog so there nana nana boo boo
heresyafacts 10 months, 1 week ago
The man wasn't walking a bathtub down the street. He was walking a particular breed of dog which was BRED to act in a particular manner. Pits are not 5th on the list: they're right at the top, along with Rotts. These dogs inflict more damage, more often, than Great Danes, Labs, Dobermans, and every other large breed because of their aggressive nature and because when they bite, they do not nip: they clamp down and wrench like a shark. http://www.cdc.gov/HomeandRecreationalSafety/images/dogbreeds-a.pdf

@heresyafacts...I've been posting on boards for over 15 years, and as I see it, it's a forum for opinions, so, impost my opinions. There's ALWAYS someone who wants to break bad, or insult you because their opinion is different from theirs. It doesn't bother me in the least. Some even have challenged me to meet them, I suppose they're aiming to beat me up until I agree with their opinion. They're ones who want their "freedom of speech", but don't want you to have yours. Those types usually exude ignorance and immaturity. I have no time or patience with that type, and will not respond to them. Most are looking to start an argument or get attention.
BUBBA 10 months, 1 week ago
not an argument just a quiet friendly debate I most of all wouldn't and probably couldn't beat you or anyone else up. I am elderly and disabled. What really bothers me is when people spout "facts" only in thier favor when there are other sides to the facts they wish not to accept. I would never attack anyone but will defend myself to my death if I had to. I would just like to see who I'm talking to and just what kind of person has such a limited view of the world - county - city he lives in. I am out and about allmost every day and see whats going on around the county and it differs from what you percieve. If I have offended you or made you think (you appear to be scared) I would like to harm you in any way that was not my intent.. Momma allways said never pick on the challanged people of the world

I'm not a dog owner but a freind of mine says that his homeowner's insurance kills him because he has a German Sheppard and a pittbull. He says that insurance companies have been getting sued a lot from dog bites so they make him high pay premiums. But I guess people who rent or lie about it dont have to pay. Another reason to reduce the number of rental properties here.

You are an example of the IGNORANCE where these dogs are concerned.... educate yourself
Spydee 10 months, 1 week ago
PIT Bull owners who CARE, KNOW that training must begin the day they get the dog....Many people have a pit ONLY because they want to have a certain image and care NOTHING for the DOG... but hey, it's in their CULTURE! PITS are good and sweet dogs... the reputation perpetuated by IGNORANCE gives these dogs a bad name... There are NO BAD DOGS....ONLY BAD OWNERS! DO not get a dog unless you LOVE it....which includes training..... DO NOT make DOGS pay for their "owners" IGNORANCE! The OWNERS need to be TRAINED!!

There are no bad cobras either. There are no bad Mako Sharks either. There are no bad Bengal Tigers either. Does that mean we need people having them as pets in our community? You need to wake it up!
BUBBA 10 months, 1 week ago
my cobra and tiger play with my pit bull all the time no problem wanna come play with us?? SOME PEOPLE ARE SO STUPID
AWOL 10 months, 1 week ago
I agree bubba. some people are stupid. Especially the people walking dangerous animals down Green street. The guy didnt even go to the hospital to see if she was OK.
johndoemo_ 10 months, 1 week ago
I also agree Bubba. Some people are SO stupid. They think the government should protect them from pittbulls. If that were my wife or daughter it would be handled. We dont need to make another law about these dogs. Just let the natural consequences happen.

If it walks lik a duck and quacks like a duck...it's a duck! Personal presence does not trump statistics.
heresyafacts 10 months, 1 week ago
I personally witnessed a "sweet, loving" half pit (with a caring owner who had raised her from puppyhood) rip the throat out of the man's other (larger) dog, unprovoked. I've seen other breeds nip each other. I've seen other breeds attack each other. I've never seen one dog dispatch another dog as violently and efficiently as this one. She had never shown an ounce of aggression. There are no bad dogs -- but there are dog breeds that by their nature are more likely to inflict serious harm or death to other beings.
Frustrated 10 months, 1 week ago
The image is not perpetuated by ignorance, but its facts. Facts are pits attack other animals and other people. How many stories have we heard about people that have so-called loving family pets that attack small children and other family members? I agree its mostly how they are trained but you have to admit ther are cases where the dog was cared for by loving people that ended up in the hospital or worse from the pet.

ALL dogs will bite~ I had my face ripped out by a collie~ so ANY/ ALL dogs will bite~ Don't be stupid
BrentLuNae 10 months, 1 week ago
These dogs were bred to fight way back in the 30s so it is natural that they still fight now. The people who raise these dogs are always so protective of them until they bite someone. Then you see them on the news in court with a sad look on their face because they are getting ready to either serve time (which a lot of the owners have already been in jail before) or they are getting ready to pay huge fees.
johndoemo_ 10 months, 1 week ago
Most people that have these types of dog are mean people who like the fact that the dog has that reputation. Take a sample of a hundred pitt bull owners and see how many of them like projecting a tough image. It will be the majority. Lets face it. It is a thug dog. ANd yes, Just because I like rainbows doesnt make me gay... but I am not going to wear a rainbow shirt because that is how most people associate it. Bing! Light bulb just hit me. We should pass a law that anyone walking a pittbull must be wearing a Rainbow t-shirt and have a rainbow sticker on their vehicle. I'm a genius!

It's true that the type of dog most people choose is a reflection of their own personality. They seem to suffer under the delusion that they, alone, can control the animal...until it turns on them, or one of their kids. I'm sure there are some pits that are perfectly calm and loving...but just like sheep dogs have the built-in instinct to "herd", the breeding was done for a reason.
conyerac 10 months, 1 week ago
If you cannot control your animal, then don't get one.....and suffer the consequences...bet this person could go to the ER and have them contact this person and let them pay the bill....

2011 U.S. Dog Bite Fatality Statistics - DogsBite.org Fatal Dog Attack Statistics DogsBite.org recorded 31 fatal dog attacks in 2011.1 Citations of each victim's story are located on the Fatality Citations page. The last year the CDC released data about dog bite-related fatalities was 1998. Likely due to pressures from animal advocacy groups, the CDC stopped studying these deaths by dog breed. Since 1998, pit bulls alone have killed 181 U. S. citizens. The only other known entity, in addition to DogsBite.org, that tracks this vital data publicly is Animal People.2 31 U.S. fatal dog attacks occurred in 2011. Despite being regulated in Military Housing areas and over 650 U.S. cities, pit bulls led these attacks accounting for 71% (22). Pit bulls make up less than 5% of the total U.S. dog population.3 Notably in 2011, adult victims of fatal pit bull attacks more than doubled the number of child victims. Of the 22 total pit bull victims, 68% (15) fell between the ages of 32 to 76, and 32% (7) were ages 5 years and younger. The year 2011 also marks an increase in pet pit bulls killing their owners. Of the 8 total instances this year in which a family dog inflicted fatal injury to its primary caretaker, the dog's owner, 88% (7) involved pet pit bulls. Together, pit bulls (22) and rottweilers (4), the number two lethal dog breed, accounted for 84% of all fatal attacks in 2011. In the 7-year period from 2005 to 2011, this same combination accounted for 74% (157) of the total recorded deaths (213). The breakdown between pit bulls and rottweilers is substantial over this 7-year period. From 2005 to 2011, pit bulls killed 128 Americans, about one citizen every 20 days, versus rottweilers, which killed 29; about one citizen every 88 days. Annual data from 2011 shows that 58% (18) of the attacks occurred to adults (21 years and older) and 42% (13) occurred to children (11 years and younger).

Statistically, most serial killers are white. Does that make all white people serial killers?
ilc 10 months, 1 week ago
no it does not but if you would like to argue stats. then try this on for size....how many dogs of this type were in Rockdale co.10 yrs. ago...5 yrs.ago? Before the big move from dekalb to rockdale.Salem rd. is now the old Wesley Chapel.Pit bulls everywhere, check cashing, title loan, and cash for gold places.soon all of the normal type of businesses will be gone...sadly so will i.i went to canby lane elem. in the first grd.off of glenwood and wesley chap.we moved in 74.now we are gonna have to move again.my kids arent going to get killed in a drive by!if this offends anyone then you should also get out cause you know what im saying is TRUE!
Spydee 10 months, 1 week ago
THANK YOU!!!! This is VERY TRUE.... Conyers "culture" , has changed....
Elmo 10 months, 1 week ago
Why not? The liberal media says all white people are "greedy, and racist"!! Doesn't "profiling" work both ways? Have the "speech police" outlawed the word, "typical"? Anything out of the ordinary, attracts attention, and creates opinions. Stereotypical behavior is, more often than not, created by the person or event being stereotyped.
The point usually missed is that all races have members that are flawed in some way or another, personally, physically, or behaviorally.
Using your (flawed) example, statiscally, serial killers are relatively small in number when compared to the general population, and generally take up very little of the space in our prisons.
Wayne Williams, the black man was found guilty of the Atlanta child murders, killing black children. A serial killer who preys on children, to me, is the most hideous of the lot. The media, at the time, seemed intent to blame the murders on a white person, sharing in your philosophy that all serial killers must be white. Seems that a lesson should have been learned there. But, "Perception is reality", like wearing a hoodie when it's 85 degrees outside. Hate and anger fuels the need to look "bad". A perpetual scowl and rudeness is the post-pubescent pouting of arrested development. It's rampant in business as well as in government.

How about putting a muzzle on your dog when out in public, around small children and/or around big groups of people. If you choose not to muzzle and something happens then that's your fault. Get a cat.....they are less to take care of and train and will still love you!!
ilc 10 months, 1 week ago
the old conyers is the new dekalb county! any questions?
BrentLuNae 10 months, 1 week ago
ilc you must live in that Salem Road area and cannot move? A lot of what you are saying is true and I feel ya. Once upon a time Wesley Chapel was nice but don't get it twisted. Don't think that everything related to black is bad and everything related to white is good. There are trailer parks around that I am sure is full of crime, drunks, child molesters, etc. and everything else you can think of. I don't want to be around ANY of the crime and bad areas be it Salem Road or a trailer park or Wesley Chapel. Thanks for letting us know how bad it is over there though. I will certainly stay away and keep my child away from there, too.
