Chairman missed the message

Chairman missed the message

As I read the Citizen article describing the BOC chairman's response to the change in reporting structure for the chief of staff, two quotes came to mind. The first was from Mark Twain when he said: "Denial ain't only a river in Egypt." The second was: "I said I'm president ... I did not say deposed." I can't remember who authored the second, but I'm pretty sure he wasn't a nice guy.

It never ceases to amaze me how politicians, when in power, allow their position to eradicate logical thought. How Mr. Oden can conclude, "This doesn't change a thing," is, in and of itself, baffling. No doubt, he completely missed the message that was being conveyed. The Rockdale County Board of Commissioners is not a monarchy or a dictatorship. It is a three-person board elected to represent the citizens of Rockdale County.

Megalomania aside, no one person dictates the governance of the county. Bravo to Ms. Van Ness and Mr. Nesbitt for drawing the line in the sand and changing the policy. Everyone knows how difficult it is to work with people who become intoxicated with positions of power, but take comfort my friends, and remember the words of singer/songwriter Sam Cooke: "It's been a long, a long time coming; But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will."

Strong and accurate commentary. The last time I heard/saw a good musical reference was a Led Zepellin basketball goal at Eastview park in '87.
