Are flip-flops appropriate wear for an assistant coach? The school system REALLY needs to install a dress code, including shoewear, for staff. I don't care what's 'confortable', I don't care that it's still summer. Flip-flops at work should NEVER be appropriate.

If that is all I had to gripe about, my world would be so wonderful.

Are you serious? What a bitter, sour complainer you are.

Its summer break. Do you complain like this, over silly, stupid, trivial things a lot? Get a hobby.

By the way, its COMfortable. Not CONfortable.

This isn't puritanical. It's about setting a PROPER example. It may be summer, but she is still AT WORK -- dress appropriately, not what you wear around the house.

Teachers who work over the summer break are doing it on their own time. The average cross country coach is paid on average about $1.50 an hour to serve in this capacity. She doesn't have to be at that school with the kids of our community two weeks before school starts-- I don't know her, but I'm thankful for her willingness to be there for the children at that high school. Some of those kids she is coaching might go on to get college scholarships because of her willingness to serve for almost nothing. Some of those kids might be up to no good in your neighborhood if she wasn't willing to hold cross country practice before the school year starts. She could be hanging out at the pool or the beach, but instead she's investing in the students in our community. She could stand out there in a chicken costume and be doing more good than you are with your sour, rotten criticism. You're right-- your comment isn't puritanical, it's obnoxious and infuriating.

Athletes wear sandals or opened toe shoes to let their feet recover. So if she had already made her run for the day, she IS setting a good example. I guess the truth is, we need to KEEP OUR STUPID MOUTH SHUT unless we know the whole story. I would like Ms Kito to ask himself why a negative thought was the first thing that came to his head when seeing a teacher basically volunteering her time over the summer to help community kids get better at their sport. Maybe Mskito is an unhappy person who has no reaction to any news except being ugly to others. Did you see nothing positive in this story that you could say? What did your grandma tell you? Mine said"if you don't have anything good to say, shut your stupid mouth!!"

I'm glad you brought up the athletic angle -- because the picture is the 'whole story'. As an EXAMPLE to athletes, she should avoid flip-flops, which are the WORST footwear in terms of potential injury: http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health/the-podiatric-dangers-of-flip-flops/2011/03/22/AFCNVobF_story.html Not to mention the fact that (God forbid) if there is an emergency while she is in charge of students, her mobility is hindered; then there is the the enormous amount of bacteria on open shoes like flip-flops, including staph, which are transferred to hands by frequent contact with flip-flops (which slide off easily) and which can find their way into cuts or open blisters. But of course, how silly of me to think that there should be standards, because clearly in Rockdale County, standards of behavior or dress are just not important anymore. God forbid we ask someone to wear something other than flip-flops, volunteer or no. Forget leading by example: it's summer.

So you're worried about the kids getting staph infection because she has on flip flops?

Thank you for working with the kids Coach O'Conner! Thank you for the words of encouragement and positive thinking about the team. The kids will benefit for you believing in them. We all wish you a good season! Except Ms Kito. She is worried about your shoes and how they will hurt the kids.

Yeah to make this many negative comments about an article that is positive in my point of view, shows how miserable a person is. Sad...very sad.
