Letter: Vote to keep current co-op members

I recall an old story about a wolf in sheep's clothing. The folks attacking Snapping Shoals EMC put on a smiling face and act like they care about us; but, the more I look into the radical environmental organizations that are behind the anti-coal efforts the more fishy things smell.

Snapping Shoals has a long history of good management; as proof I'll offer the fact our electrical rates are some of the lowest in Georgia. It makes me mad when folks tell lies about my co-op. They say they want to save me money, but they don't care about our rates. They only care about their anti-coal, anti-gas, anti-oil, anti-nuclear hysteria. They are for hydro power, but against dams. They are for wind power but not if the windmill hits a bird.

I trust our board; I like low power rates; I like air conditioning and refrigeration and having no blackouts. And, I'm going to the annual meeting on July 26 at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers and vote to keep my fellow co-op members Gene Morris, Anthony Norton and Walter Johnson representing me. Voting is from 8:30 to 11:15 a.m. This is really important and I sure do hope to see you there.

Let's be honest here, SSEMC hasn't been upfront with us for a while. They didn't tell us about the spending they were doing ($11 million may not be much to millionaires, but for us working stiffs, it sure is). They didn't tell us much about these plants, and then all of a sudden they were dumped on this other group just last week. I don't know about you, but I expect more from my EMC. Sounds to me like they're more interested in making themselves a sweet deal on the side than looking out for us members. I would like to see people on the board who will actually be straight with us, not make back room deals then inform us once they've made some pocket change for themselves.

Snapping Shoals EMC has been ripping off their customers for years.

EarlyBird, If by "ripping off" you mean providing the cheapest rates in the area for electricity, providing excellent service, providing refunds to their consumers, providing rebates to consumers for purchasing energy saving appliances, sponsoring numerous events throughout the eight counties it serves, and countless other consumer focused programs then your idea of "ripping off" is far different than mine. Ask a Georgia Power customer how much their rebate check was. Ask a city of Mansfield customer how much their bill was last month. Ask a customer of the city of Oxford how much of a rebate they got for installing a new air conditioner. Better yet, ask the challengers to the current board members how they plan to pay for these wind and solar ideas they promote. Ask them if wind and solar electrical generation is cheaper than coal and natural gas. Mr Harvey has it right, I like affordable and reliable electricity. Keep up the good work Snapping Shoals. I'll see you all at the horse park on Thursday. I plan to vote to keep the current board members in place. You do as you see fit.
