Richard Early Kelley, Sr., age 89, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on July 13, 2012 after a period of declining health. Mr. Kelley was born November 11, 1922 to Jesse and Daisy Kelley and lived in the Lithonia area all of his life. A true American patriot, he honorably served his country during WWII, loved fishing, his dogs, rabbit hunting and was a dedicated Atlanta Braves fan. As a young adult he farmed and continued to have large vegetable gardens until declining health. He retired from Atlanta Gas Light Company after 32 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Buster and Ty Kelley. Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Joyce Farmer Kelley, daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Bud Atkinson, Jewel and Ronald Kirkus, son, Ricky, sons and daughters-in-law, Spencer and Susan Kelley, Kevin and Allison Kelley. Lovingly remembered as PaPaw by nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He will especially be missed by family friend and caregiver, Kathy Brewer. A funeral service will be held 11 o’clock Monday July 16 in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home with Rev. Nelson Goddard and Rev. Doug Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Sunday from 6-8 at Henry Funeral Home, Lithonia.
