CONYERS -- A man, his girlfriend and their infant son narrowly escaped injury after shots were fired into their car at a local apartment complex.
According to reports from the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office, Brandon Clayford Reid, 23, of 115 Jericho Drive, Covington, faces three counts of aggravated assault along with charges of cruelty to children, possession of a firearm during commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies. Reid remained in the Rockdale County Jail as of presstime Tuesday.
Deputies were called to Terraces at Fieldstone on the afternoon of July 8 where Reid had allegedly gone looking for the 22-year-old male victim who lived there. According to the victim, he, his roommate and Reid had been gambling the night before when Reid allegedly became upset because he lost. The victim told deputies there was an argument over payment and he and Reid got involved in a physical altercation, after which Reid left.
The next day, the victim, his 20-year-old girlfriend, and their infant son were driving into the complex at about 2 p.m. when they received a phone call from the victim's roommate telling them not to come to the apartment because Reid was there with a gun. The girlfriend, who was driving, told deputies that she was circling the neighborhood when Reid allegedly began firing at them.
There were several gunshots to the couple's car. According to the incident report, a rear window was shattered and a front window was cracked. Authorities said one bullet apparently missed the child in the back seat by about 2 inches.
Reid reportedly fled on foot but was apprehended without incident at a store in DeKalb County after authorities received a tip on his whereabouts.
The victim told deputies that he had known Reid for more than two years and that he never thought Reid would fire shots at him, his girlfriend and their baby.

I ask our judges and District Attorney this simple question, is this OK? Is this what we can expect in our town? Are any of you going to send a clear strong message that this town will not put up with this? I do not want my wife or child in a community that allows this. Something has to be done. Normal punishment isn't enough deterrent.

I agree. I would like the judge to give a very harsh punishment for this. Something that would make all of this guy's friends and family go into shock. Someone needs to make these idiots think twice about pulling out guns in Conyers. Maybe we should do like Kennesaw.

Fieldstone has become such a delightful place. "...his 20-year-old girlfriend, and their infant son" -- rarely do I see married individuals involved in incidents like these; responsible individuals marry to raise a family. It's so much easier to drop your "family" if you've no commited ties to them, and no financial involvement or co-ownership. And of course, it's much easier to get government assistance (and more of it) if you are a single mama instead of a married one.

You are right. They are rarely married and rarely property owners. They are either renting or living in someone else's home.

Well, I look at like this. YALL are the ones who initially ran (moved away) at the first sign of crime coming in instead of fighting it, which allowed THEM to move in. If YALL had just stayed here, there would be no place for THEM to move to! So, if you are considering moving again, remember this!!! THUGS HAVE CARS!!! They will find you again...you can take that to the bank unless you have BIG BUCKS that will allow you to live in a million dollar house in a gated community with security. If not, you might as well stay here and help fight this crime with the rest of us and don't be scared to call the police at the first sight of it. Look out for your neighbor and call the police. My subdivision sent out a notice to all of us to call code enforement to stop this guy from working on cars in his drive way and guess what, we stuck together and it worked. We don't live in the type of subdivision that allows folk to work on cars in the driveway. Nope, it ain't happening here! So, go ahead and move...those thugs will find you again so be ready!!

Are there a lot of readers on here that have moved away? I was just wondering who you are addressing when you say "YALL". My wife and I are still here fighting the good fight. If we see something fishy, we call 911 quick. The cops are still pretty good about responding quickly too.
