CONYERS -- An alert passerby and quick response by the Conyers Police Department resulted in the arrest of two males suspected of robbing a Kroger shopper.
According to the CPD, Demetric R. Favors, 19, of 245 Lakeview Trail, Covington, and a 15-year-old male were arrested in connection with the robbery at about 7:55 p.m. Wednesday following a traffic stop on Parker Road. The 15-year-old was not identified due to his status as a juvenile.
According to the incident report, the 15-year-old suspect allegedly snatched a purse from the hand of a 44-year-old woman who had walked from Kroger to her car in the parking lot off Ga. Highway 138. The suspect then got into a white Cutlass driven by Favors and the two fled west on Flat Shoals Road toward Parker Road, according to the CPD.
An unidentified Good Samaritan followed the suspect and called police to report the robbery, according to the CPD.
Conyers officers, with assistance from Rockdale Sheriff's Office deputies, pulled over the suspects' vehicle on Parker Road at the tennis complex less than eight minutes after the incident.
"We are most appreciative of the vigilance shown and bravery demonstrated by citizens that take action when other citizens are threatened," said Conyers Police Chief Gene Wilson. "This situation was resolved quickly thanks to the heroic actions of our citizens coupled with the quick response from our officers."
The purse stolen from the Kroger customer contained about $30 in cash. A search of the suspects' vehicle turned up several debit cards, an IHOP card, a driver's license and $20 in cash.
When the suspects were apprehended and placed in patrol vehicles, the juvenile suspect reportedly knocked on the car window to get an officer's attention. "Make sure you tell her I apologize to her," the suspect said.
Favors was taken to the Rockdale County Jail; the juvenile suspect was taken to a juvenile detention facility.

Isn't the juvenile just so sweet! Put him away for as long as is legally possible & his 19 year old friend, too!

Congratulations to the police, and a overwhelming THANK YOU to the person who got the information the police needed. I think it's time, also, to change the laws allowing juveniles to hide in anonymity in these types of crimes -- if it takes a village to raise a child, as so many are wont to proclaim, then that village needs to know which children need extra supervision.

If he had gotten away, spent the lady's money and used her credit cards, would he have called her and apologized then? Probably not.

Let me guess. The two punks were black honor roll students, the lady was white. just saying. If it would have been my wife the story would read.. Two purse snatchers shot.

There is a picture of Favors on the Jail web site. Looks like a nice kid. Too bad the only thing I know about him is that he is a sorry good-for-nothing purse snatcher. That woman was just trying to get groceries and these two punks are so unsatisfied with their own lives and too lazy to work that they snatched her purse. Ruined her whole day and now she will never be able to go to the store again in a relaxed manner. She will always be nervous. I see people harping all the time on here about knowing what the judges do to people like this. I wish the DA would publish their success rate and sentencing data. They should have a report and it should have convict/suspect Name, crimes accused of, whether there was a conviction with a conviction rate at the bottom, and the punishment. I agree with others, I am totally in the dark as to the performance of our DA and Judges. Apparently, nothing deterred these two idiots so someone needs to think outside the box and start giving out crazy punishments.

It makes me wonder just what kind of mindset makes a person wake up one morning and say "Hey lets go rob a lady at a grocery store today". I guess its just the "I want it so Im going to take it" mentality of some of the kids these days. Im just glad I was raised by good parents and taught to respect not only other people but myself.

Kudos to the passerby who trailed the perps and alerted the police to their whereabouts, s/he needs to receive some sort of community service award.
Maybe we need to set up something similar to the Civil Air Patrol, like the Community Crime Patrol, an auxiliary component of law enforcement to help the cops bring down the crime spree the currently plagues our community.
Nothing dangerous, just be the eyes and ears for the police, like the passerby did in this case.
The perps seem to outnumber both the police, and the budget in Rockdale, and the cops can't be everywhere.
Just a thought, and again, kudos to the passerby.

If the general population of Rockdale would get a concealed weapons permit and carry a weapon we would see less articles about young blacks robbing folks but more articles about more of them in the morgue.
