COVINGTON -- The Newton boys basketball head coach Rick Rasmussen will hold his second Coach Rasmussen's Summer Youth Mini Camp at the Newton High School gymnasium starting Monday.
The three-day camp is for boys going into third through eighth grade from 9 a.m. until noon. For $30, each player will learn the fundamentals of basketball including drills and techniques that have helped the Rams win more than 75 percent of their games in the past 14 seasons, winning region titles in 2001, 2003, 2010 and 2011, while making deep playoff runs in the state tournament for two days.
On the third day participants will be broken down into teams and they will play a game. The fee also includes a drink and a snack during their break.
The camp will be run by Rick Rasmussen and his staff, with assistance from current Rams players.
Players will be grouped by similar age and skill in one of three levels, so that it will be a positive experience. "People can sign up the day they get here on 8:30 on Monday," Rasmussen said. "I encourage any guys in the county to come."
