Couple awakes to find armed man in their bedroom

CONYERS -- A couple was awakened in the early morning hours Wednesday to find an armed man standing over their bed, demanding money.

The 30-year-old male victim told the Conyers Police Department that his wife awakened him at about 5:30 a.m. saying that she had heard a noise inside their Arbor Creek apartment home on South Main Street. Moments later, the victim said a large black man armed with a semi-automatic handgun entered their bedroom.

The victim said the man demanded money, but the victim said he didn't have any money at the residence, according to the incident report.

The suspect reportedly opened a couple of drawers in the bedroom and looked through them before heading to the living room. When he left the room, the victim called police.

The suspect reportedly grabbed an Acer laptop in the living room before leaving through the front door.

The suspect was described as 5 feet, 11 inches to 6 feet tall, heavy set weighing about 300 pounds, and wearing gray shorts, a black sleeveless shirt and white tennis shoes. The suspect had a white T-shirt or similar item wrapped around his face so that only his eyes showed.

The suspect apparently got into the apartment by breaking the kitchen window, raising the window and climbing in.

Trying to rob people in those apartments is like fishing in a swimming pool. It's stupid. Did the robber think they were loaded down with money in those apartments? I hope they catch him.

I would say 2005 because that is the year Katrina blacked out the Atlanta area making it the new New Orleans.

Why do we keep seeing stories of home invasions and robberies and not stories of suspects being shot and killed. Do people not arm themselves anymore??? Conyers is not like it was years ago. Living in Conyers is like living in Atlanta now. I can guarantee if a perp breaks into my house with me there the story would read "Intruder shot and killed during break in". I have no issue killing you if you break into my house. Old, young, black or white, teenager or preteen I will shoot you dead.

Rockdale has been infused with an inordinate number of thugs and "gangstas", all expected to be contained by a relatively small number of law enforcement duly bound within the confines of "political correctness". It is, therefore incumbent upon citizens to protect their homes and families in various, effective, ways. We're seeing an entitlement society gone amuck.
The mindset of invading our very homes is increasingly empowered by the stark cowardice at all levels of government and the justice system.
Just because Washington DC has abandoned the Constitution doesn't mean the people should just roll over and let it happen. "Mean" has moved into our area and fire must be fought with fire. The police cannot be everywhere all the time to protect the citizens, so that leaves the citizenry vulnerable.
If we are not willing to fight back, we may as well just move all of our belongings out to the curb and put a "FREE" sign on them. It is a progressive movement, when all the stuff is gone, and all of the money is taken, then that leaves the people. The riots in Greece proves the progressive-liberal mind doesn't understand the simple concept of empty coffers.
When a rabid pack of wolves enters the arena, the "fight or flight" syndrome kicks in....so, what do we do". Flee, or stand our ground. Our homes are the final places left for the safety and sanctuary of ourselves and our families. Protecting the is our right, and our duty! The ONLY alternative is our property, fortune, and our lives. In the 60's, DeKalb countians fled, many to Rockdale; now, the cancer has spread to our neck of the woods. Are we going to "flee" too? We've already seen that you can't run away from it, just ask any current citizens who fled DeKalb for the same reasons. We can't do much about the streets and crimes against businesses, but we still have the right to protect our homes.

Elmo I agree with you. The thugs know people are afraid of them because of the way they dress, act, and present themselves. If you notice, they usually run in packs because they cant stand alone and be bad. We must take a stand and push back. Protect your family and your home however you must. Marty the black leaders cant control or solve the problem. It must start at home when the kids are young. Teach them respect both for themselves and for others. But in this society of "entitlemnt" its not likely to change any timesoon.

The black "leaders" can have an effect on the situation. However, some of the very ones who are vying for the positions have criminal records themselves. Their silence, or blaming of white people for all of their problems send multiple signals to the young people. Some of them are just older "thugs" who have learned how to "work the system". Their ascension to positions of power tells the young thugs that there is nothing wrong with their behavior, and that it can lead them to the same end results...POWER. But, eventually every thing comes down to the individual. That is where the real power lies. Waiting on the black "leaders" is waiting on a train that will never arrive. People who call themselves "black leader", I.e. Jackson, Sharpton, etc, seem to stir up a lot more racial animosity than they solve. The people of Detroit, Atlanta, and efen DeKalb County waited on those "leaders", only to see their homes and lives destroyed. We've been waiting on Obama to straighten out the economy for over three years, only to see it nearly destroyed. I think all the black "leaders" want is to increase their own power and status, and could give a flip less about America, or her people. Obama has opened all our eyes to this trait and it trickles down to the towns and communities all over the country. Black "leaders" -in my opinion - only lead the black people, at the expense of everyone else.

9 out of 10 violent crimes, assaults, armed robberies, home invasions, breakins etc in Rockdale county are being commited by 1 or 2 black males. This has been going on for quite a while and it seems Conyers/Rockdale is under attack by young black males. When are black leaders and parents going to stepup and address this issue. I remember not long ago we rarely had violent crimes of this nature.

Well, you betta remember WHO to vote for and who NOT to vote for. If one of those new guys running for sheriff gets elected, do you think crime will go down? Look at Clayton, DeKalb, and Fulton. Crime is rampant under those sheriff's and police chiefs. Do you think they will know how to handle the current crime and work hard to get crime down in Rockdale if elected? I mean, I'm just askin....

I feel where you are coming from, Elmo. When I moved to Lithonia in the 90s, I had a new house built and my subdivision was very nice. At the time, Lithonia had to lowest crime rate in DeKalb and that is why I moved there. After a few years, I saw thugs walking through the subdivision with their pit bulls and pants on the ground. I knew then I had to move before it got worse. I sold my house in the nick of time because there are people still in that subdivision trying to sell their house but nobody wants to live there and because of the economy. My point is this. I can't keep moving every few years to get away from crime because it is all over. I have been in Rockdale for 6 years now, we live in a nice neighborhood that is very quiet and have not experienced any crimes. My child goes to an excellent and is performing very well. I thank God all the time for my blessings. I am praying that I can get my child through the next 8 years of school without any major crimes. I would love to stay here and retire. I pray that my neighborhood does not change for the worse.
