Mrs. Annie Laura Day, age 91, a lifelong resident of Newton County passed away Monday, March 19, 2012 at Riverside Healthcare Center in Covington with Crossroads Hospice Care. She was born May 5, 1920 to the late Thomas Milton and Annie Mae Jones Bates in Mansfield, GA. Mrs. Day was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was employed at Covington Manufacturing and Oxford Manufacturing Company for 50 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. James Walter Day, two sisters and brothers-in-laws, Eloise Bates and Kermitt Harris of Covington and Geraldine “Jerry” Bates and Charles Vernon Watson of Carthage, NC and two brother-in-laws Eugene Marks and Billy Ray. Mrs. Day is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Stephen Thomas and Patti Kendricks Day of Slidell, LA, grandchildren and their spouses Brett Michael and Christina Gonzales Day of Anchorage, AK and Staci Michele Day and Donald Addington of Cypress, TX and two great grandchildren Donald James Addington of Cypress, TX and Katie Day of Norman, OK. She is also survived two sisters Betty Jo Marks of Mansfield and Tommie Ray of Oxford along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family and close friends. Graveside services for Mrs. Day will be held at 4 O’clock, Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at the Covington City Cemetery with Reverend Valerie Harvard officiating.
