CONYERS -- A recount in the election for Rockdale County sheriff is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. today.
Sheriff Jeff Wigington, who lost the race to Democrat challenger Eric Levett by a margin of 34 votes, requested the recount Saturday following certification of the election results.
According to Rockdale Supervisor of Elections Cynthia Welch, the recount will take place at the Board of Elections and Registration on Parker Road. The recount will include all ballots cast for the sheriff's race. Welch said she expects the recount to take two to three hours at the most.
The Rockdale Board of Elections will meet in a called meeting at 1:30 p.m. in order to re-certify the results of the sheriff's race, according to Welch.
The recount follows Friday night's count of provisional and mail-in ballots from military personnel and overseas civilians. Friday's results reversed the unofficial results tabulated Tuesday night in the General Election. At the end of Tuesday night, Wigington had an 18-vote edge over Levett. Friday night, Levett had a margin of 34 votes.
Final vote counts Friday were 18,726, or 49.96 percent, for Wigington and 18,760, or 50.04 percent, for Levett.
According to the Secretary of State's Office, a losing candidate who is within 1 percent of the winning candidate's vote total may request a recount in writing within two days of the election certification.

The voters of Rockdale have had their say. Please urge our legislators to introduce local legislation and continue the trend, change the counties name to East Clayton. Its what we deserve.

Driving into work this morning, I noticed a sporty little silver car (Looks like a Chrysler coupe) driving down 212 with Rockdale County Sheriff markings. I have seen the standard Crown Vics, SUVs, and full size pickups with Sheriff markings, but never a sports car like this. I wasn't close enough to see if it had a badge number printed on it. Anyone else seen this?

That's it. Why does the Sheriff's office have a Nissan 350? It doesn't seem like a normal patrol car.

Maybe it was a drug dealers car and Rockdale now owns it!!

It is a drug seizure vehicle. It is now being assigned to the female deputy who is in charge of the C.H.A,M.P.S. program for elementary schools. This is the program that evolved from the DARE program. If you were to sign up for the Sheriff's Citizen Academy, you who learn these things.

WOW MR. Geek, thanks for stating the obvious. Not a typical patrol car?? OH RLY
Your priorities are... i see a fancy car that i pay the guys salary who drives it and i'm jelly so i'm gonna post how jelous i am of it. Oh, and that car for a fact would cost less than a patrol car(new), and its like 3x better on GAS!
