Conyers In its first meet of the season, the Rockdale swim team finished two places behind Whitewater. Thursday, the Bulldogs got a little revenge. Rockdale had five first-place finishes in a 384-351 win over the Fayette County school in a quad meet at Johnson Park.
Kemaya Tucker led the way for Rockdale, helping the girl’s team finish second. Tucker won the 100-butterfly (1:12.60) and the 50-freestyle (28.08) and also swam on the second-place 200-freestyle relay team (1:55.68).
Also placing first for the girls was Sydney Norton in the 500-freestyle (7:10.35) and the 200-medley relay team (2:13.47).
The Rockdale boys finished in a close second, getting a first-place finish from Davis Foster in the 100-freestyle (53.12).
“The main thing is that all the kids got better,” said Rockdale coach Stephen Sansing. “Ninety percent of our swims were faster than our first meet…the kids are working hard in practice, but we’re not there yet.”
Eastside won the boy’s race and finished third overall, thanks in large part to the Ellwanger brothers and Jack Mitchell, who each won two races. Robbie picked up gold in the 200-freestyle (2:05.25) and 200-individual medley (2:19.26), while Joey was champion in the 100-butterfly (55.94) and 500-freestyle (5:08.55). Mitchell won the 50-freestyle (23.24) and 100-backstroke (56.97). The Eagles also won the 200-medley relay (1:51.58) and 200-freestyle relay (1:37.10), while Samuel Stewart was champion in the 100-breaststroke (1:15.08)
Salem finished fourth overall, but got a first-place finish from Taylor Beauchamp in the 100-breaststroke (1:18.42) and the boy’s 400-freestyle relay team (3:58.77).
