Clarence O’Neal Smith, age 100, of Roswell formerly of LaGrange and Conyers, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Zion Baptist Church in Covington, with Rev. Reese Sanders officiating. Born in Clay County, Alabama, O’Neal moved to LaGrange with his family at an early age. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army Air Corp during World War II, retired mail carrier, enthusiastic gardener, exemplary father and grandfather and a faithful member of Zion Baptist Church. Mr. Smith most recently enjoyed all the activities at his Roswell home, Manor on the Square Assisted Living. Because of his loving and caring spirit, he was a blessing to all whose lives he touched. He will be fondly remembered for his wit and the stories he shared of events during his lifetime. He was predeceased by his parents, James Harve and Alabama (Bama) Garthright Smith; his spouse Bunie Talley Smith; his brothers, Benjamin Holloway, Talmadge Cecil (T.C.) and John Lowell; his sisters, Carrie Smith Blankenship, Clara Smith Lynch and Ora Smith Woodham; several nieces and nephews. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Reba and Larry Daniel, Louneal Burdett of Conyers and Talitha and Rick Pettepher of Roswell; grandchildren, Dee (Lori) Burdette of Evans, Dale Burdett of Conyers; step-grandchildren, Matt (Amanda) Pettepher, Eric (Breanne) Pettepher of Cartersville; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Thelma Andrews Smith (Mrs. Lowell), numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. The family will receive friends from 4 until 7 PM on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Wheeler Funeral Home, 11405 Brown Bridge Road, Covington, Georgia, 30016.
