CONYERS -- Rockdale County Public Schools recently had to change an administrative regulation and a school board policy to reflect a state law that was changed regarding child abuse notification.
Now volunteers have to be more responsible when they suspect child abuse or neglect.
According to the new policies, all school personnel and people volunteering in schools are required to report suspected or alleged child abuse or neglect to school authorities as soon as possible.
Previously, the responsibility was only on school employees.
Garrett Brundage, executive director of Support Services for RCPS, said current volunteers have been notified of the change and had to sign documentation acknowledging the change. As new volunteers come in the schools, they also will have to sign a document acknowledging the responsibility.
