CONYERS — The Rockdale County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday night to set the 2012 millage rate for maintenance and operations at the 2011 level — 16.91 mills.
Tax Commissioner Dan Ray had said in August that the county's tax digest had decreased less than anticipated from the prior year, making it possible for the county to maintain its 2011 millage rate. Rockdale's net digest decreased by 4.5 percent from 2011. Based on the past two years' experience, Ray said he had advised local governments to budget expecting a larger decrease.
Rockdale Finance Director Rosalyn Miller told commissioners Tuesday that the county's budget had been based on a 5 percent decrease in the net digest, meaning that the county would not have to dip as deeply into reserve funds as planned.
