COVINGTON -- A Rockdale County Sheriff's Office deputy and his wife were both arrested Friday night when Newton County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to a domestic disturbance on Hazelhurst Drive in Covington.
Deputies went to the address of 120 Hazelhurst Drive and discovered that a verbal disagreement had escalated into a physical altercation, according to NCSO Public Information Officer Courtney Morrison.
"Deputies spoke with the husband and the wife and through their investigation were able to determined they had been arguing and it became physical," Morrison said. "The wife said she presumed the husband was having an affair. They were threatening each other with a hammer."
Morrison said both parties had physical injuries and both were arrested and charged with battery under the Family Violence Act.
Latoya Woods, 38, and Jerome Woods, 41, were both transported to the Newton County Detention Center.
According to the RCSO, Jerome Woods has been placed on administrative leave.
"We were notified by Newton County of the arrest and he was immediately placed on administrative leave with pay while we look into an internal investigation," said RCSO Sheriff Jeff Wigington. "Obviously, we take this very seriously."
