Suspect arrested in home invasion, robbery

CONYERS -- A Covington man is in the Rockdale County Jail on charges of armed robbery and aggravated assault in connection with an August home invasion and robbery.

Christopher James Tucker, 32, of 3559 Salem Road, Lot D18, Covington, was arrested Sept. 4 by the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office in connection with the incident that occurred on Aug. 22.

Investigator Michael Camp said Tucker was identified as a suspect in the incident after Investigator Tracy Radford received a tip that Tucker was talking about robbing a woman.

"Based on the details that Tucker gave when talking about the robbery, it was determined that only someone involved in the robbery would have known some of the details given," according to Camp.

The RCSO is still looking for a second suspect involved in the robbery and assault.

According to Investigator Radford's incident report, The 53-year-old victim was in her bedroom in the early morning hours when she heard a noise coming from the living room area.

The victim stated that two white men entered her bedroom wearing black hoodies and with their mouths covered by what appeared to be Ace bandages. One of the men reportedly pointed a large handgun toward the victim and asked for money and jewelry. The woman said she slumped down in the bed and removed her rings and bracelets so the suspects wouldn't see her jewelry.

The men reportedly took a large handbag containing prescriptions for methadone and Xanax and her cell phone. They then tied her hands and feet with a yellow rope and left. Once they were gone, the victim stated that she was able to free one of her hands and untie the rope around her ankles and call 911.

Further investigation revealed that the suspects also took a TV, VCR and laptop.

Tucker has been charged with aggravated assault, armed robbery, burglary and false imprisonment. He remained in the Rockdale County Jail as of Tuesday.

In other crime news, an inmate at the Rockdale County Jail escaped briefly on Sept. 4 at about 4:30 a.m.

Suspect Terry Adam Redish, 34, who was in jail on charges of possession of tools for commission of a crime, loitering and prowling, fleeing and attempting to elude and willful obstruction, was reportedly taking breakfast trays from the kitchen to the women's annex at the jail when he made a break for the woods in the direction of Plunkett Road.

A perimeter was established around the woods between Plunkett Road and the jail. Deputies used a heat sensor to identify a signal in the woods that was consistent with a human lying flat on the ground, according to the incident report. When deputies entered the woods with flashlights, the suspect reportedly stood up and started running back toward the jail. He was ordered to stop, tripped and fell to the ground, and was taken into custody.

In addition to his other charges, Redish is now charged with felony escape and misdemeanor willful obstruction of law enforcement officers.
