CONYERS -- Rockdale will again try to get Venson Elder his first victory Friday. The Bulldogs are coming off a 42-0 loss at Drew, a defeat that dropped the Conyers school to 0-3, and extended the program's losing streak to 12 games dating back to last September.
After losses to rivals Salem and Heritage by a combined score of 62-14, last week's loss to the third-year Clayton County school followed a similar script: not much went right.
"Too many turnovers, penalties, we didn't play well on special teams," said Elder. "We went with a different group on special teams, and that backfired on us. I'll take full responsibility for that."
Rockdale heads back home to Reid Stadium to try to end the losing skid and will play another young program in Langston Hughes. The Fulton County school began the season 2-0 before dropping a heartbreaker to Wheeler 17-12 last weekend.
"We're still trying to find ourselves on offense, right now we don't have an identity on offense. Got to go back to the drawing board and come up with a better plan. May have to simplify some things (but) we're not ready to win."
