Mamie Florine Shumate of Covington, GA passed away Friday September 21, 2012 at At Home Hospice. She was born on April 21, 1922 in Rockdale, GA to Bert and Dora Mae Still Thompson. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved to work in the yard planting different varieties of flowers and to grow her own vegetables. Mrs. Shumate is survived by sons and daughters in law Thurman and Harriet Shumate of Elijay GA, Tony and Phillis Shumate of Covington GA, Michael and Linda Shumate of Jasper GA, daughter and son in law Jan and Eric Maxwell of Covington GA, fourteen grandchildren and eight great grand children. She is preceded in death by her mother and father Bert and Dora Thompson, her loving husband of 68 years Jack Shumate, grand daughter Kelley Shumate and several brothers and sisters. Services will be held at 11:00AM on September 24, 2012 at Hyde’s Chapel Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Sheppard officiating along with vocalists Paul and Stephanie Wimpey. Interment will be at Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, September 23, 2012 from 5:00-9:00PM.
