Eddie Potts

George Edward (Eddie) Potts came into this world on January 4, 1958 at Rockdale County Hospital and went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 27, 2012. He lived his entire life in Rockdale County and leaves behind a cadre of close friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walker and Deane Potts and George and Claire Cowan, all of Conyers. He is survived by his loving wife, Terry Lynn Potts; beloved son, Tyler Potts, both of Conyers; daughter, Haley Potts, of Brookhaven; and parents, Benny and Bitzi Potts, of Conyers. Other survivors include stepdaughters, Maegan Underwood and Brittany Wood; sister and brother-in-law, Lisa Potts Huckaby and Darrell Huckaby; brother-and-sister-in-law, David and Tanya Nolen; nieces and nephews, Jamie, Jackson and Jenna Huckaby, Derrick and Cody Nolen; and parents-in-law, Terry and Janice Flournoy, of Wedowee, AL. Eddie graduated from Rockdale County High School in 1976 and was active in sports, playing on the Bulldog football and basketball teams. He pursued his education at DeKalb County Technical College and for the past 30-plus years has been employed by Batchelor and Kimball, Inc. He has been a long-time member of Atlanta Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 72 and was working as a project foreman at the time of his death. Eddie was a long-time softball umpire in the community and an avid hunter and fisherman, but his true passions were his family, Rockdale Baptist Church and the Heritage High School Band. He worked the soundboard at the church for many, many years and has been the Pit Boss and an integral part of the support wing of the Patriot Marching Band for the past twelve years, seldom, if ever, missing a game, competition or band activity. George Edward Potts has touched the lives of many people in the Conyers/Rockdale County community and will be sorely missed by a great cross section of people, young and old, near and far. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 1, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Rockdale Baptist Church with Pastor Dwayne Jones and Pastor Reese Sanders officiating; he will lie in state beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Sunday, September 30, 2012 from 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heritage High School Marching Band Eddie Potts Memorial Fund, 2400 Grande Road, Conyers, GA 30094 ATTN: HHS Band Office.
