Gibson starring at Chipola

MARIANNA, Fla. -- Cameron Gibson seems to be enjoying his new college baseball home. The former Salem standout in his first season at Chipola Junior College is leading the team in a number of offensive categories.

Gibson, a sophomore outfielder who transferred from Georgia Tech after playing in just 19 games his freshman season, is leading Chipola in batting average (.386, 56-for-145), hits (56) and on-base percentage (.467), while adding 24 RBIs, 15 stolen bases and a pair of home runs.

Gibson, who played at Salem from 2008-2011, left the Conyers school as one of the most decorated players in the baseball program's history. He owns four school records -- career hits (116), RBIs (86) and career saves (11), while sharing the career home run lead of 16 with former teammate Brandon Crumbley.

"We are very proud of Cameron's accomplishments and his furthering his career," Salem coach Chad Kitchens said. "He was one of the best Salem had and we wish him future success."

Chipola (26-16) continues a series with Gulf Coast State College today at 2 p.m.
