Marjorie Margie Maddox
Mrs. Marjorie Margie Franklin Maddox, age 91 of Clarkesville, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013. She was born in Clarkesville, GA in 1921 and as a teenager moved to Atlanta. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julian A. Maddox and parents, Otis and Margaret Franklin. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Jim Esslinger, Clarkesville; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Tina Maddox, Atlanta; grandchildren, Jay Palmer, Clarkesville, Jill Palmer, Conyers, Wesley Auhl, Atlanta, Richard Maddox, Jr., TX, Christy Maddox, NY; sister, Emilie Stanley, Savannah; 5 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Maddox worked for Southern Bell Telephone where she met her future husband, Julian, who was in public relations for the company and was a gifted artist, musician and writer. They enjoyed a 50-year marriage where Margie was a homemaker and mother to Richard and Julie. Margie enjoyed following the activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and moved back to Clarkesville in 2005 to be near her daughter. She was a resident of Habersham Home East. Mrs. Maddox was strong in her Christian faith. Her mission everyday was to try and bring a little joy and a big smile to those around her.
