The Rockdale tennis teams hadn't played since March 27 before facing Ola on Tuesday, but apparently the Bulldogs didn't need to shake off any rust.
Rockdale, which has already clinched the top seed for next week's Region 2-AAAAAA tournament, lost just one match in a 5-0 girls win and 4-1 boys win against the Mustangs.
"We had a good practice (Monday), got out there and simulated some matches ... we knew Ola was a solid team," Rockdale coach Stephen Sansing said.
In girls play, Destiny Commodore had no trouble at No. 1 singles, winning 8-0, while No. 2 Ciara Chesser picked up an 8-4 win. The No. 1 doubles team of Abby Bradford and Sydney Norton and the No. 2 team of Kyia Havens and Savannah Bryan won 8-3 and 8-4, respectively. Aliyah Byrd slipped by with an 8-6 win at No. 3 singles.
Patrick Sanders won 8-5 at No. 1 singles to get the boys team rolling, while No. 3 Logan Hull cruised to an 8-0 victory. Sansing mixed up the doubles teams, switching Collin Shamley from No. 2 to No. 1 to pair him with Bruce Mitchell (they won 8-3), and moving Abenet Addisu from No. 1 to No. 2 to team with Chris DaSilva (they won 8-2).
"We just looked good (at doubles). Combination of working on better control with all of them, and just good communication between the No. 1 and the No. 2 doubles," Sansing said.
Trey Hull suffered the only loss of the day, dropping a 9-8 (7-5 in the tiebreaker) match at No. 2 singles.
"We had to come out and play well and it was pretty competitive, for the most part pretty competitive," Sansing said. "We had to fight for points out there and that was good for us, get better for the state tournament."
Rockdale hosted Union Grove at the Rockdale Tennis Center in another non-region contest Wednesday, which ended too late for this edition.
