Robbery suspect chases clerk from store

CONYERS -- A clerk at the Texaco station at 1801 Ga. Highway 138 was robbed at gunpoint and chased from the store by the robbery suspect Saturday night.

The 39-year-old female clerk told the Conyers Police Department that she was stocking a cigarette rack at about 10 p.m. when the suspect came in the store, jumped over the counter, pointed a handgun at her and ordered her to open the register. The victim said she ran out of the front door screaming for help, with the suspect chasing behind her.

The suspect reportedly grabbed the victim's right arm and attempted to drag her back into the store. However, she said she believes the presence of a law enforcement vehicle across the street changed his mind and he ran away.

The suspect reportedly had his head covered with a black shirt or hood. The victim said he appeared to be a young, thin black male. She told police she was unable to get a good description of him because his face was covered and she was trying to get away from him. She said she didn't know if he left on foot or in a vehicle.

A witness working nearby told police that he heard someone screaming and saw a black male wearing a gray T-shirt with a hood over his head and a brown object over his face. The witness said he called 911 because he suspected a robbery was taking place.

Why is it always a black person accused?

That can't be a serious question, you're being factious, right?

Elmo, I believe the word that you were looking for was facetious rather than factious. Both are correct words but with different meanings. Facetious is one of the few words in the English language that contains all five vowels in sequential order without excess or substitution. Of course, if you did mean factious then that would be correct also but the questioning of the question would be out of order. Give a hoot, read a book.

Then there's the story about the salesman...this salesman routinely outsold all of his fellow salesmen 10 to 1.

The fellow at the bottom of the list -with ZERO sales for months - complained to the sales manager that it just wasn't fair, because the top sales guy always misspelled everything on the order forms, so his sales should be "re-distributed" among all the other salesmen.

The boss took "Mr. zero" aside, looked him in the eye, and said, "What you need to focus on, is less spelling, and more SELLING...but only if you want to keep your job!".

This board is about opinions, comments and making a point. Those wannabe school teachers who want to grade papers, but rarely make a point worth noting, should surf the net and find a good literary forum to ply their trade.

TM, if you would tax yor brain to come up with a reasonable point occasionally, you would not have to try and gain attention by playing "Mr. Spellcheck".

It looks like as "Bedford Falls" sinks into the abyss of becoming "Pottersville" that these stations would install the bulletproof cashiers booths with the slide out cash drawers. They could equip them with remote door locks to contain the perps until the law arrives.

Either that, or armed guards...

How do they know he was black if his head was covered? Besides in the dark of the night it's hard to see and people in general may appear to be black. The clerk I assume was tired and overworked and underpaid and smoking and scared. Her judgement was probably impaired. Let's take two pieces of testimony. One says that he was wearing a brown shirt, another gray. And the law enforcement officer across the street was a perception which contrary to popular belief is not always reality. Does the convenience store have a camera? No I suppose not. Don't do drugs.

I dont know about you but I can tell the difference between a black personand a white person at night. And of course you know what happens when you ASSUME something, right? I would think the lights to the store were ON since the store was OPEN so the clerk would have light to see by. Maybe you should take your own advice and dont do drugs because it sure sounds like you been smoking something good.

I don't think the clerk was doing drugs......the "suspect" on the other hand may need the money for his "habit".....just sayin!!

Gee TM are you making a case for it not being you? Most of the time I will believe the wittneses until proven other-wise.If we look at the current trend here it WAS most likely a young black male and we will be looking for a young black male until an arrest of some one else is made. So TM watch your front door for the popo. As soon as the black citizens own up to the real problem and become a part of the solution instead of ignoring it and being part of the problem the problem this will not go away

Bubba, TM has a super-sharp scalpel, he uses it routinely to split hairs on any subject that comes up.

"Assuming" is his stock-in-trade, for without assumptions, and spellcheck, he would have no basis for posting, as he is seldom right about anything.

He "doth protest too much" and his whining is a dead giveaway to his true agenda.

I, like most others, tend to believe the clerk, as she was there, Travelingman wasn't!

Elmo your comment sounds like you have given up andexcept that armed robberies are the norm now. I'm not giving up and I Dont think you really have either. We need to push for more boots on the ground to catch and convict these thugs and take them off the street for a long time

No...not giving up and not accepting armed robberies as "the norm". Just facing the reality of the situation. Armed robberies have become prevalent here in ROCKRIDGE, and there is no reason for innocent clerks and workers to become victims for a minimum wage job.

I'm suggesting the enclosures until some semblance of control is established. "More boots" is a good idea, but don't you know that we have parks to build and portraits to hang before we have any budget for that?

Who knows the extent of this crescendo of crime or how it will end, in all likelihood Rockridge will become a full-fledged extension of DeKalb county resembling the war ruins of Kosovo before it ends.

The object of being robbed is basically coming out alive. 911 usually ends up directing the post mortom and prevents very little. This guy tried to rob the store with a cop car sitting across the street, and if the clerk had not run and screamed, he would probably have pulled it off unscathed.

But IF we had more boots, and IF they were convicted is two mighty big "IF's" to gamble your life on.

I'm with Bubba on this. We should not give up nor accept crime as the norm. There will always be conflicting descriptions of a person committing a crime, but I'm inclined to believe that a clerk that saw the robber up close, even for a few seconds, could tell the race of the person and make a good stab at the gender. We have to report crime, we have to report suspicious people, we have to be involved with our community and our law enforcement if we hope to keep our county safe. TM, as usual, your comments make no sense and have no relevance to the story or helping to solve the problem. You know what they say...If you aren't part of the solution then you are part of the problem.
