Riptides ready for short course championships

As is the case each February, the Rockdale Riptides swim team has plenty of representation at the Georgia 14-under Short Course Championships. The Riptides, based out of Conyers, will have nine swimmers competing in dozens of events starting today through Sunday at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta.

Delaney Willette, a 12-year old, and Thien-An Maynard (10), led the way, qualifying in 14 and 12 events, respectively. Willette will swim in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, 100 butterfly, 100 individual medley, 200 individual medley and the 400 individual medleys, while Maynard will compete in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke, 50 butterfly, 100 butterfly, 100 individual medley and the 200 individual medley.

Nine-year old Corey Kidd qualified in eight events, including the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke, 50 butterfly and the 100 butterfly, while 11-year old Sarah Riley qualified in four events: 50 butterfly, 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly and the 400 individual medley.
