CONYERS --A quick-thinking victim, her husband and other citizens helped Conyers Police officers arrest and charge three juveniles involved in an attempted purse-snatching on Wednesday.
According to the CPD, a woman was leaving JoAnn's Fabrics in the Salem Gate Shopping center at about 3 p.m. Wednesday when a 13-year-old male attempted to steal her purse. The woman struggled with the suspect, according to the CPD. Her husband, who was sitting in their parked car, began sounding the car horn to distract the suspect and two other males who were nearby.
The three suspects ran in the direction of Tall Oaks subdivision while the victim called 911. CPD officers, in cooperation with Rockdale County Sheriff's Office deputies and other witnesses, caught the three suspects within 15 minutes.
The 13-year-old suspect was charged with robbery; the two others, ages 15 and 16, were charged with being party to the robbery. All three remained in police custody as of Thursday night. The suspects' names were not released due to their status as juveniles.
"As the suspects were fleeing, the victim followed them in her vehicle and took photos with her cell phone," said Conyers Police Chief Gene Wilson. "While we don't condone citizens taking matters into their own hands in dangerous situations, we certainly appreciate the effort she and her husband made in helping officers identify and ultimately apprehend the suspects."
