CONYERS -- A Heritage High School student is holding a mentoring event designed to educate students about professional sports opportunities.
Senior Imani Patterson is holding the event, Making the Right Call, at the Rockdale County High School gymnasium from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. It is open to all students and parents in any grade.
Patterson wanted to hold the event to educate students about careers associated with professional sports.
"The discussion will be to expose our students to other careers paths associated with the sport profession beside trying to make it to the NFL and NBA," said Roxanne James, one of the event organizers. "The chances of that are slim, but there are many other options for those that love sports."
Tommy Plummer, a community activist, is leading the event, and a Super Bowl head referee, Jerome Boger, will be a special guest at the event. RCHS Principal Georgi Nour also is expected to speak.
The event will include a question and answer session, as well as a performance from the color guards.
The event is free.

Greetings!
We are so excited that Mr. Jerome Boger, the Head Referee for the 2013 Super Bowl has agreed to come out and meet with our youths. We hope to see many members from the community at this event. Again, there is no cost to attend.
Sincerely,
Roxanne James
