CONYERS -- It was one of those things that Vickie Watkins has been meaning to do for years, but just never got around to it -- until last week when Watkins brought a class ring she found some 30 years ago to the Citizen seeking help in finding the rightful owner.
Watkins, a resident of Rockdale County, said she found the men's 1982 Heritage High School class ring in the men's and boy's department at Rich's at North DeKalb mall just before the start of school in 1979 or 1980. Watkins said she was shopping with her grandmother for back-to-school Levi's when she found the ring under some jeans on a display table.
The ring -- white gold with a blue stone -- has the initials "RAD" engraved inside. Watkins said she has scoured HHS yearbooks for a student with those initials, but without success.
Watkins said her son is now a senior at Rockdale County High School, and she recently purchased his class ring.
"I just think somebody's mother bought that ring for (the owner), and they'd like to have it back," she said.
Anyone who thinks the ring may belong to them should contact the Citizen at 770-483-7108, ext. 226.

She found the ring in 1979 or 1980, but it's a 1982 class ring. Wow.

You can buy class rings prior to the graduating year. Why she waited this long to have a conscience is an even better question. Better question still: What do you want with that piece of junque?
