COVINGTON -- Eastside wrestler Kevin Thompson was the only local wrestler to win his weight class at the 20-team East Metro Wrestling Classic on Saturday.
Thompson, who wrestles at the 145-pound division, beat out Alcovy's Justin Howell in the bout.
The 145-pound champion made it to the championship match with pins over Walnut Grove's Garrett Harris and Clark Central's C.J. Laguines before getting a 16-0 technical pin over Social Circle's Justin Givens.
Before losing to Thompson, Howell had a 15-0 technical pin over Jackson County's Kyle Crumley followed by a 23-9 win over Justin Skinner of Appalachee before beating Oconee County's Jason Miller 7-4 to make it to the final bout.
Rockdale's Alonzo Allen (113) also had a chance to take the top spot but lost 4-3 in the championship match to Oconee County's Marshall Brown.
Winning third place for Newton were AJ Palominio (220) and Jose Rivera (138). Also winning the consolation champion were Heritage's Julian George (145), Rockdale's Ulises Ponce (138) and Eastside's Misha Felton (126).
Coming in fourth were Heritage's Marco Harris (113) and R. Walker (195), Rockdale's Clif Casurra (138), Eastside's Tyler Campbell (160) and Mitchell Troutman (182).
Finishing fifth were Rockdale's DJ Aroister (220), Newton's Nnamdi Onyekwuluje (170), Alcovy's Austin Richardson (160), Rockdale's Sean Mer (152), Heritage's Joseph Timmons (132) and Salem's Reggie Hurt (120) with Newton's Shadrien Cater (182), Heritage's Mitch Clemens (160) and Eastside's Joey Fletcher (113) also medaling, coming in sixth.
Of the area teams, Eastside took eighth place with 119.5 points followed by Heritage in ninth (106), Rockdale in 10th (103), Newton in 13th (86), Alcovy in 14th (71.5) and Salem in 19th (18.5).
Winning the East Metro was Oconee County with 210 points followed by Social Circle (184), Clarke Central (165), Loganville (142.5), Monticello (141) and Jackson County (126).
