CONYERS -- A man who told deputies he had consumed six "big" beers and was on his way to the store to buy more when he was involved in a hit-and-run accident faces multiple traffic charges.

The accident, which occurred Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m. on Flat Shoals Road near Iris Drive, sent the female driver of the other vehicle to Rockdale Medical Center with injuries.

According to an incident report by the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office, Julio Javier Guerara-Blandon, 36, was driving a Buick LeSabre on Flat Shoals Road when he struck another vehicle, jumped out of the car and ran into nearby woods.

Inside the Buick, deputies found a bank card, cell phone and receipt from Tall Oaks Apartments in Guerara-Blandon's name. There was also reportedly a strong odor of alcohol in the car. Deputies tried to make contact with the suspect at his apartment but were unsuccessful.

A short time later, deputies received a call of a person down on Flat Shoals Road near Mitchell's Used Auto Parts. They found Guerara-Blandon lying on the side of the road with large scrapes on his forehead and blood on his chin. According to the deputy's report, the suspect had very glassy and bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person.

Guerara-Blandon reportedly said he was on the way to the Raceway gas station to buy beer when he got into the accident on Flat Shoals. He said he fled the scene because he was afraid.

Guerara-Blandon was taken to Rockdale Medical by ambulance. He was treated and released to the Rockdale County Jail.

He faces charges of DUI-alcohol, hit and run, failure to maintain lane and no seat belt. He remained in the jail as of presstime Tuesday.
