CONYERS -- A 27-year-old man was killed in an apparent shootout with another man in the Lakeview Estates community in north Rockdale shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Darius J. Reid of Conyers was shot twice in an apparent ongoing dispute with Davaill McCoy, 31, at McCoy's residence at 32 Lakeshore Drive. According to the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office, McCoy called 911 following the shooting and reported that he had just shot a man. Upon arrival, deputies found Reid unresponsive in McCoy's front yard.
According to Investigator Michael Camp, both Reid and McCoy shot at each other multiple times in McCoy's front yard following an argument.
"The victim was shot twice, struck once in the chest and once in the stomach, and died as a result of the gunshots," said Camp. "The suspect was not struck, but his residence was shot multiple times."
McCoy has been charged with voluntary manslaughter and is being held in the Rockdale County Jail. Additional charges are possible pending further investigation, according to the RCSO.
